They are new. I think the the reason why a new orchestrator was brought in so the whole show can be realigned

You are absolutely right on your choice of drink as it really does make no difference to your gender. Bobby drank bourbon and so does Bobbie. Sondheim is very hesitant about changing the book. Although in my book bourbon / wine / a Manhattan is a very easy change to make ... But why is there a need to change it?

While personally I don't think the word girl (or boy for the matter) should be used today to describe anyone beyond their mid-teens - it's clearly not a view shared by Stephen Sondheim - or at least not in the 70's as The Ladies Who Lunch is peppered with references to girls (I'm not too fond of ladies and gentlemen either - unless a peer of the realm!). However, that song contains one of the many brilliant moments of reinvention in this production - Joanne singing about 'the girls who just watch' - now meaning herself and Bobbi (as referenced earlier in the show) - who when depressed turn to a bottle of scotch or drink a vodka stinger. And guess - what there's Patti LuPone clutching her vodka stinger while Rosalie Craig has glass of whisky in hand. The show and this particular production is full of individual jigsaw pieces like this - which gradually come together to make up a picture - but it's not complete until that final candle is blown out.
PS - I also loathe the word 'chick' which is one of the revised lyrics in You Could Drive a Person Crazy - but I can't remember who says it. If it's the ghastly PJ then it's probably in character - but I'm not sure that Andy would use it and definitely not Theo. That's my view anyway!

Tonight I’m finally seeing this, after a year long wait since booking! I’m feeling very excited and hoping I’ll love it as much as I think I will.

Especially as she has no filter with it. And doesn't care. She's too glorious for words.

Not sure whether this should be in this thread, Bad Behaviour or Overheard .... actually, not the Overheard thread, as the conversation was with me. During the interval of today's matinee, the lady next to me struck up a conversation. Was I enjoying the show? Usual stuff. Then ... "Bobby is usually a man, right?" "Yes." "So is she a transvestite now? ... (pointing to the programme cover) ..." only in the picture she looks a bit masculine ..." Lost for words doesn't even begin to cover it!
Perhaps she reads the Telegraph:

The whole premise of this new production is about challenging the way women are viewed in society, and I think it’s perhaps a conscious decision to have Bobbie NOT drinking a ‘feminine’ choice for this very reason. Yes, the whole point is to gender-flip the characters but not change their behaviour - so Bobby should still drink whisky. if you view a female Bobby drinking whisky differently than a male Bobby, then that's on you. I could be generalising here but Americans relationship with Bourbon is a lot different to the relationship Brits have with Scotch Whiskey, particularly single malts. I think whiskey is seen as a masculine drink but that is changing, along with those in the alochol industry. All the best whiskey cocktails contain bourbon and for many Bourbon is a right of passage into drinking. I felt Bobbie, perhaps harking back to youth as she gets older would find comfort in Jack Daniels in the same way I often find myself with a Blue WKD or Smirnoff Ice.

I always get them confused! I can never remember if Japanese have an e or not in their whisk(e)y either!

It's whiskEy in America no matter what. That's just the way it is.
>> The American spelling is whiskey most likely due to the large number of Irish immigrants setting up their stills throughout the US. Although the legal spelling is whisky, whiskey is generally preferred.

Really don’t get the hype about this show. It’s directed and performed amazingly but I just felt so bored! I didn’t understand the plot and what was going on, I like shows with a good story to it. It didn’t help how everyone was laughing so loudly at everything either - makes you feel so uncomfortable!

It didn’t help how everyone was laughing so loudly at everything either - makes you feel so uncomfortable! I saw it on Saturday. I understood the plot, but couldn't identify with anything in it! The only bit that bored me was the scene with Mel G at which everyone but me seemed to be laughing. I wasn't remotely amused by her. I loved all the music (I was already familiar with most of it) and I loved Jonathan Bailey's performance. And, of course, being in the presence of Miss Lupone was amazing! (There were 2 annoying people behind us, who kept talking and I was longing for Patti to catch them at it!)

Many, many bonus points to the woman I spoke to in the Delfont Mackintosh box office this afternoon whose answer to my request to swap a pair of tickets for Company for two singles on different dates was "so you want to see it TWICE MORE?"

How have people been finding getting "dayseats" for £25 a bit later on at the box office? Say 1pm ish. I've noticed the sign still out advertising them, so have they been available?
