Anne Hathaway seems most likely of the names being floated on Broadway World. She has the acting chops, feels like a good fit, and has some singing experience ... and is 35. I could see that!!

Saw this last night. Loved it but as a perpetually single (by choice) woman, it f***ed me up slightly, I'm not gonna lie. But so refreshing and necessary to see a female character like this.
Getting Married Today was obviously the showstopper but the scene where Andy and Bobbie sleep together followed by the Tick-Tock sequence was easily my favourite.

I think it's really telling how and who this resonated with. And interesting how much explaining I as a woman am having to do, to men, about just how powerfully this resonates. It's been a week, and I still have moments where it catches me off guard and I think about it. It's already gotten under my skin. But also the people not quite understanding that 'power' to it are the reason it had to be this way, this time.
Also the response I had to a review of mine where I was told to seek professional help because I apparently had a sex addiction, is proof enough that women aren't allowed to own their own sexuality, or indeed that there's a need for work like this. Oh and that email was from a so-called theatre professional reviewer.

Ear Worm Maximus. 'Marry Me a Little' has infected my head. I genuinely can't believe that at one point it was cut from the show, it feels like such a crucial part of Bobby/ie's journey. Anyone with Sondheim knowledge know the context behind cutting it and bringing it back?

I've just looked into tickets... Jeeeez they're not cheap, are they? They have gone up since opening night/reviews, deservedly so. You can still get some respectably priced seats around the house.

I haven't found them yet! I've checked lots of dates, but I can only do Saturday afternoons. I'm not sure I want to pay over £30 for restricted view.

Thank goodness I did book in again for this. The bargain dress circle box was no longer showing when I checked three random dates for the extension just now.
If you can find those, they are meant to be very good value for money.

Sondheim wrote three songs for the end of the show before Being Alive - Marry me a Little and Multitudes of Amys were songs that linked to a draft where Bobby was going to propose to Amy at the end of the show. That was changed, probably as it undercut the ambiguity and open endedness they ended up with and the songs didn’t make it clear enough that Bobby was lying to himself. The next attempt, that wound up on the demo and initial performances, was Happily Ever After but that was seen as too angry and cynical. Being Alive retained the ambiguity but a more positive outlook. Marry me a Little was heard subsequently by being the title song of the two person early eighties revue like show that carries its name. In the mid nineties Company book revision it was interpolated as the first act finale, as a sort of halfway to Being Alive moment and as the original script didn’t really have a big solo number to keep the focus on Bobby and close the first act. The other cut song is called The Wedding is Off and was an early version of Getting Married Today.

Murmurings on the BroadwayWorld board is that the production is still planned to transfer to Broadway this Spring, but not with this cast (which is why it could feesably extend again in London). And rumours are that a female Oscar winner making her Broadway debut in this production come the Broadway run, expected to replace either Rosalie or Patti, so that age spectrum is wide open. I do think this will transfer- but the BroadwayWorld forum is filled up with so much crap! One fangirl mentions a name, and then everyone tags along with it. On the Company board last week they were all arguing over Sutton Foster or Laura Benanti for Bobbie! I would love to see the full cast transfer with this if it did. Rosalie done the workshop and the subsequent productions, whilst Anne Hathaway would be nice, I doubt Marianne would get rid of her in order to stunt cast it. I could think of other parts that could be stunt-casted rather than the lead! Slim possibility it could transfer with the full cast and open at the end of March, after the extension and just make the Tony deadline. It would stand a good chance at the Tony awards this season, I imagine they'll want it open for that! What is in the pipeline for the next Tony season? As much as I loved Craig, Benanti would be perfection. I saw Craig just after she came back from her missed performance so she might not have been at her best (going for a second viewing soon), but Craig's singing to me isn't good enough for a New York audience who don't know her. If there are better alternatives - why not? Benanti is funny, sexy and a great singer. Sutton Foster should stay far away.

Someone asked “is Bernadette Peters too old to play Bobbie?”
LOL.
No idea if they were kidding or not!

You almost feel onstage, and bar maybe a little bit of Ensemble unable to see at the sides for s few seconds, the whole show is very central! 100% recommend.

Laura Benanti is just starting performances in My Fair Lady, so is unlikely to go straight from that to Company, in the same season while her daughter is still so young. Work life balance...Maybe if it was the following season.

I think it'd be better for Company if it does transfer to wait until later next year if they want to retain the cast. Rushing a transfer to Broadway is never a good idea.

I was going to say just that! It's all exciting discussing a transfer but it would be lovely to be able to enjoy this West End success a bit before then!

Timing is crucial, as we've seen before. I keep comparing and contrasting (this production of) Company to Groundhog Day (will explain more in a different post further) but the reaction and response that Company has gained is the response Groundhog Day deserved and should have achieved had it been executed at the right time in the right way. Thanks for the 'Marry Me a Little' info @cardinalpirelli !
