This could be seen as a shameless ploy to get in Transgender ticket buyers! (I can't think of a witty alternative to 'pink pound' for the Trans community, sorry). When they & the non-binary brigade realise they've been sold a lie, there could be uproar! And all because Patti was never a man.

Astonishingly misinformed, but very amusing!
"Sondheim's sequel to Merrily We Roll Along, a show in which all of the actors are backwards!"
"From the author of Sweeney Todd, which recently starred Johnny Depp as Imelda Staunton."

But it's completely true isn't it? Broadway legend Patti LuPone is worth the price of the ticket alone.

I don't know the plot of Company or any of the songs bar Patti's solo which, lets face it, will probably be the main highlight (based on what @ryan tells me!). So I'm going into this expecting some transgender, Patti as a man in Act 1 realness.

I wonder if it was that Metro writer who kept popping up on here with his "exclusives" (that we all knew already).

I don't see it for another eleven months, but I already know what I'm going to wear: black, in mourning for the original book.

It's just a pain that you have to sit through so much of the rest of it before you get to it! And don't worry about the plot, it's about as complex as '42nd Street'. With less tap dancing. I don't think you'll have any trouble picking it up.

I just am struggling to imagine LuPone and Giedroyc in the same cast...

Mel Giedroyc to play Sarah This production appears to get more wacky by the second! Is she a singer? She was in that Sound of Music thing but I don’t remember if she sang at all. I’m all for wacky though, keep adding the crazy!

I’m all for wacky though, keep adding the crazy! I mean I'm personally very excited she is in it. Don't know the piece too well but I don't think the role has any solos, more ensemble singing and the occasional solo line. I'm starting to think Jane McDonald being in this may be quite likely. Other people I'd like to see in it , maybe Jack Davenport .

At least this may also help it be a bit more mainstream as now Mel is a name the British public know so will put a few bums on seats. It's not terrible stunt casting as she's is an actress at least.

I imagine she'll be very funny in the karate scene, and that's probably why they've cast her.

Sarah doesn’t really need to sing...it a comic role and she sings in a group so they can just turn her body mic way down lol while Natasha Barnes sings from the wings

She can sing and was in a musical a few years ago called Eurobeat and had a song all about turnips.

More excited by Mel than I was by Patti. There. I said it.
But seriously, it's not a singing part really, and she can sing well enough anyway. It's a comedy part and she's a fab comedy actress- she'll be great. And also yes a great commercial decision. The general public might not know Company or Patti but they know Mel.

The general public might not know Company or Patti but they know Mel. I am so so troubled by this, but you're right. I never trusted the general public. (I actually don't know who Mel is and have no opinion on this casting choice but it does seem to be pretty sound).
