Sound issues plagued this at the Liverpool Empire yesterday evening. It was hard to tell what happened more often - the stairs being moved around yet again on stage or an actor's mike dipping out.

Despite those problems, there's no denying that when this show's good it soars and does full justice to the great songs from the movie. It's frustrating then that the rest of the evening is padded out with forgettable tunes and dull dialogue which fails to engage or elevate the characters beyond two dimensional.

Nevertheless, Joanne Clifton impresses as Alex and Demmileigh Foster brings plenty of energy and attitude to Tess. In comparison, while Ben Adams can hold a tune he's entirely charisma free as Nick, while the role of Gloria also felt distinctly underplayed.

I was clock watching waiting for the curtain call for much of the second act. When it eventually came, the Liverpool audience didn't need much encouragement to take to their feet. A contrived standing ovation or not, it was nice to finally enjoy an impressive medley of the best songs from the show without the filler in between!

I know this is the news everyone has been waiting for.  Joanne Clifton was on BBC Breakfast this morning, talking about SCD. She revealed that she's just signed up to Flashdance for another year.

Watching this tonight in Blackpool. Can’t be any worse than Son of a Preacher man can it?

Son of a Preacher Man was definitely worse. At least this has some redeeeming qualities.

As a show, it was just so poor. There was absolutely zero energy coming from the stage. And Flashdance should ooze energy. The music didn't sound beefy enough, the set design was dire, the lighting design was like being at a school disco, endless sound issues. No sound from the mics for the first song.

I think Joanne Clifton has a good voice in there somewhere. I could hear potential, but she sounded ropey in this. Pitchey. Lead guy also poor. General dire diction as a cast overall, couldn't hear half of what they were saying.

Most awkward moment was during I Love Rock & Roll when the four or so cast members on stage were doing the whole "clap along with me" thing...no-one clapped along.

Sadly a typical Selladoor production...cheap cheap cheap.

Apart from Joanne Clifton, who sang pretty well throughout, I could have written the same about the show in Bristol tonight. Worst thing I've seen at the Hippodrome since Breakfast at Tiffany's.

Quite easily the worst show I have ever seen. Joanne Clifton was decent, but the whole production was terrible. I desperately wanted to leave before the first act had even finished. I stayed though, hoping things would pick up in the second act. It didn't.
The constant, and often unnecessary, moving about of the set was distracting.
The singing by the cast, apart from Joanne and Ben, was largely mediocre.
The ensemble often seemed to be dancing to the music in their head, instead of the show, and were not synchronised.
It lacks humour - the jokes were atrocious.
I've been to many feel good-musicals before, and at least came away thinking it had been fun and the performers were good. Not this time.

According to Ben's Instragram, he and Joanne have just won Best Leading Actor and Actress respectively, in 'Korea's version of the Oliviers'.

Is there nothing else on in Korea?

I watched the original movie last weekend, and could not believe how such a simple movie had been translated so badly to the stage.
