I always used to take a blanket with me to the Open Air Theatre as it does get a bit chilly as the night goes on but now that I am the proud (yes, proud) owner of a CAPE I take that with me instead AND I can wear it home. Culture. Comfort. Style. Nailed it. I am sure with all those fore mentioned sailors you won't be needing no blanket or Cape. |

Danny Mac on Sunday Brunch doing a fairly poor job of promoting this.
Not the sharpest tool in the box maybe, despite being interviewed by that idiot Tim Lovejoy who should make anyone look like a genius.

There was just 6 weeks between the cancellation of Sleepless and the announcement of Danny in this. Things move quickly in the business we call show...
Wonder who was lined up before Danny became suddenly available?

Really glad they have diversity among the main characters Bit late to this but the original Broadway production back in 1944 famously had Sono Osato, whose father was Japanese (1944 remember) as Ivy, one of the lead characters and Gabey's dream girl. Apparently Samuel Edwards is replacing Jeremy Taylor, who's had to withdraw due to injury. This was mentioned in the newsletter sent out by Open Air Theatre today - it also says that him, Danny Mac and Fred Haig will be performing at the Magic At The Musicals concert tonight.

Love On The Town but have not booked for this as I think May is a little early to sit outside in the evening. I will be frozen unless I take a duvet and then look like a homeless person on the way home!

Went to first preview. Started 15 mins late. Ist half was 1 hour 25 mins. Interval stretched to 30 mins. 2nd half was 40 mins so ended at 10.35.
I enjoyed it. Was in good shape for first preview. Some good dance sequences and singing. Staging seemed well thought out to me. I particularly liked the lighting effects once the sun had gone down. Some of the dancing will tighten up as it progresses. Hope others enjoy it.

Wow... your enthusiasm for it is overwhelming!
The running time seems pretty snappy.. I'm sure when I saw it at the ENO years ago it was about 4 hours long. Or maybe it just felt like it.

Saw this last night. A few first night teething problems, screeching parrakeets, one of the male chorus losing his shoe into the audience in the opening number, a non collapsing dinasour, issues with retracting and removing sets, Siena Kelly playing Ivy falling down a gap between the stage and one of the entrance ramps, however in the best tradition the show carried on.
This is another show where dance is first and foremost and it holds its own with the current crop in the west end. The stand out in the first half was a ballet of a gay sailors encounter on his leave in New York. The cast were all excellent with Danny Mac showing he has the chops to lead a show. The resolution did seem a little rush but overall this has makings of a five star production.

Thought this was in very good shape for a first preview. Excellent choreography. (Not a tap shoe to be seen!!) Thought the set was a bit cumbersome and felt it was difficult to know where we were at times- like that Carnegie Hall scene. But some excellent singing. 'Some other time ' being a stand out. But do remember a jumper!!
