In an interview in the Metro (16 Nov) Harry Hill says how much he enjoyed I Can't Sing, that he has not been put off and that he wants "to do another one".

Harry Hill and the stage simply don't mix; I Can't Sing was mediocre at best and atrocious at worst, and an absolute money hole due to his insistence on elaborate sight gags.

Didn't 'I Can't Sing' get good 5 and 4 star reviews from the critics (and was a hit with the audiences that went)??...
Just because it went to a big theatre that couldn't find an audience, doesn't mean that should deter him from wanting to do another one!

At the risk of this coming back to bite me, I will stick my head above the parapet and own up to the fact that *whispers* I actually went to see I Can't Sing and *dons tin hat* quite enjoyed it! I went for Nigel Harman, who was terrific, and there was a girl playing the part of The Unknown Auditionee who was definitely a star in the making. I can't remember much else - it was just a night of frivolous fluff - but well done frivolous fluff and we were surprised when it closed so soon. Oh yes, one other thing I do remember is that the audience would have made their way into the Bad Behaviour thread - wasn't the usual theatre crowd, though that was to be expected I suppose. I'd definitely go and see something else by Harry Hill. (Maybe this post should go into the Unpopular Opinions thread!)  |

I don't know much (anything, actually) about Harry Hill, but I loved I Can't Sing. Closed way too early.

I enjoyed it too even I forgot it was obscenely budgeted. Still waiting for the union to revive it
As long as his idea ain't passé then he may get a better run second time around

Many people who saw it seemed to enjoy "I can't sing". It's just that they chose the worst possible theatre for their show. It's way too big. There's a reason why no show runs for a long time at the Palladium. Pick something smaller this time. Know your place and go for something the size of the Noël Coward Theatre or the Criterion Theatre.

Everyone in the show was great (Evrio and Harman in particular), but please forgive me my unwillingness to give Hill any credit for that.
Yes, he should be allowed to try again, but someone needs to sit him down and remind him that he'll need to suitably adapt his usual style for the stage; if he wants to write a musical with elaborate, constantly changing sets and intricate and complicated costumes for two-second jokes, he probably has the clout and influence to make another film or a made-for-tv musical.

The show itself was solid enough, what it needed was an experienced producer making sensible decisions instead of just throwing money at it and sticking it on at the Palladium sight-unseen.
With the right team working with him Harry Hill could produce something really good. What he needs is a few constraints to overcome, I think.
