Personally, I'd love it.

I wonder if Sony being involved in the Matilda film adaptation adds any believability to that, on top of them obviously distributing the original film of Groundhog Day? I can’t say I’d be upset if this did make it to the big screen, though I can’t imagine who they’d cast.

I really hope this happens! I tend to be a bit skeptical about these things but I'm intrigued by this since Tim Minchin just posted about Matilda's strong performance on Netflix: Not sure how it's doing overall since this is just one week and just in the UK, but if it's performing well I can see why Sony would be interested in more.

Thinking of going to see the captioned performance of this in a few weeks - either front row of dress or mid-stalls. Anyone have any feedback from these seats or nearby? Just a bit concerned about the rake in the stalls and that some people say the dress circle is quite far away. Thanks!

Just a bit concerned about the rake in the stalls and that some people say the dress circle is quite far away. Thanks! I don't think I've been to a captioned performance there before, but just in case you haven't seen this, on the OV website it says: "At in-person captioned performances the actors’ speech is displayed on units at the side of the stage. Whilst no changes are made to the performance itself, the captions may be visible. If you are booking to see the captions, the best view of the captioning units can be found in the Dress Circle, though this may vary depending on the production. Please sign up to our Access Membership and select Captioned Performance mailings to be notified of any changes to the caption unit position." from www.oldvictheatre.com/visit/ov-access/services-for-access-patrons/

Will probably give them a call tomorrow to get advice. Already an access member but thank you anyway for letting me know!

Caught this having seen the original Old Vic run and still loved it. Tanisha Spring was fabulous as Rita. The revolved were missed but only if you knew it from before. Really glad to hear it is carrying on this time.

Caught this last night and loved it. When the source material is so loved, it's a big risk to do anything to it, but I really don't think they put a single foot wrong.
Very strong cast all round, hadn't looked beforehand as I wanted to see it 'fresh' and it took me until interval to realise it was Tanisha Spring who I absolutely loved in Prince of Egypt (which I miss!)
Now I'm working on catching it again next month, trying to convince a group of non theatre regulars.
Some great theatre magic bits on show as well, helps elevate the show from a great musical to great show.
Mention to Nick Hayes in the ensemble who is an absolute star any time he appears.

Totally agree - he really is hugely charismatic on stage! Very very funny too in the bar/car scene - worth the ticket price alone.

Will look out for whatever he appears in next. I've found some of my favourite shows that way, just following an actor (not in a stalker way!) and it helps get me to a wider variety of shows.

Just had an e mail with a survey about Groundhog Day and one of the questions asked if I would go to see it if it transferred to the west end. So presumably the producers are thinking about it.

Wow so this last night. Went in totally new to this one. Didn't listen to the cast recording before hand. So had no idea what it was going to be like. It's such a great show. Andy Karl Phil amazing. Tanisha Spring Rita is fantastic. So hope there is a possibility for a transfer in the west end or UK tour for this. If so I'd defo be going again.

On Monday Billy Nevers got injured in the first act and was replaced for the second act. Looked pretty bad and looks like he’s still off. Also looks like the understudy for Nancy was meant to be on tonight too.

Saw this tonight. Seems I’m alone in not living it! Performances were great, as were some technical elements but just found the score so forgettable and then book a bit muddled. So wanted to enjoy but just didn’t hit the spot for me. Probably a high 3 star.

Matinee yesterday and lots of understudies on. Aimee Fisher for Nancy. Jasmin Colangelo for Joelle. Jacqueline Hughes as Debbie (her first performance, from Twitter, got a special acknowledgement at curtain call from Andy Karl). Zack Guest as Freddie (really enjoyed his performance). Started 20-25 minutes late due to "technical difficulties".

I saw it last night and there were 4 female understudies listed as on but working through the names they were actually in 2 understudy chains where where everyone in the chain shuffles up a part.
This was my second viewing this run. My first view was an early preview and it has improved since previews (when I already loved it) in I suspect many ways I can't put my finger on but is just tighter. From audience reactions lots of people were first timers so it is still reaching new audiences.
I'm impatient to find out where it goes next so I can see it again but I assume they won't announce anything until the end of the run.

Is this transferring next year or was that just a rumbling?

Is this transferring next year or was that just a rumbling? According to the previous posts on this thread, it is lined up for the Savoy Theatre (presuming earliest will be after Plaza Suite in April 2024).

Is this transferring next year or was that just a rumbling? Their aim with this run is for it to lead to a U.K. tour, rather than a West End transfer, thus the removal of the revolves this time round. This run is also being used to try and attract investors to make a film version of the musical. No idea if either are going to work out yet though.
