I had to book a return visit so this time I've splashed out on the stalls. So a few weeks from now, really excited to see if I can figure out the illusions.

It seemed a lot tighter tonight than two weeks ago, really slick. Sound is crisper and balance is much better. No issues with the set or the hanging lights. Really is a wonderful wonderful production. Full standing ovation again. A true 5 star show.

I really liked this today. I thought act one dragged a bit but act 2 was knockout. I just thought that given Minchin is such a fan of JCS he’d realise that sometimes less is more and two hours is fine thanks. Andy Karl ✔️ fab, Tanisha Spring ✔️ace and Andrew Langtrees’ song broke my heart (despite his work on the ‘Ghost’ cast recording being amongst the most cringeworthy American accent ever committed to disc). Highly recommended for fans of grown up musicals where the male lead isn’t a drippy belting tenor. More Baritones please! Clever, ace theatre.

Anyone know if they reduce tickets on the day like they do for other productions?

Anyone know if they reduce tickets on the day like they do for other productions? They’ve been doing a lot of dynamic pricing nearer the time of the show. For example for tonight’s show the premium seats in the stalls are £72.50 instead of the usual £150. I picked up a front row centre ticket for tonight for £50 instead of the £90 it is later in the run.

Hmm okay thanks! Was hoping for a bit cheaper! I remember blocking up a premium for Sylvia for £30 on the day! Not sure if I’ll replicate that then!

I think after the reviews today it might be worth buying sooner rather than later unless you're looking for the odd single here and there at the last minute, which always seem to be available.

Thought this was such a DULL show. Andy Karl was great, and some other good performances. But the show. What a snooze. Second half was particularly weak.

I know I should ignore it but Arifa Akbar’s review makes me so irritated. Ever since I saw that empty soulless cash cow that is Frozen which she had given 5 stars I’ve known her taste and mine were not well matched, but still! To say of Tim Minchin’s extraordinary score (which for my money is probably the best of any 21st century musical so far, managing to be both sophisticated and populist) “fine if relentless… none of the tunes memorable… slightly better songs in the second half” beggars belief.
I loved this all over again, and it’s absolutely (to me) still a 5 star show. It will never quite have the same impact as the first viewing (so lucky, lucky you if you’re coming to this fresh) and I think Andy Karl’s voice is sounding slightly less indestructible than 8 years ago, but it’s still non-stop brilliance and to me Tanisha Spring is stronger casting than last time. A solid gold hit.

I love the show but I definitely think he's a stronger lyricist than composer and I wouldn't begrudge anyone for thinking the music is a little generic. Maybe she was a little too harsh in her wording but I was expecting a scathing review from your quote and it's a positive one.

Me too - I've seen it 3 times so far with 3 more in the pipeline. I'm dragging people along so they can see what the fuss is about!

I saw this for the first time today and I went expecting and hoping to love it and I just... didn't. I'd totally agree with the reviewer about the music. I almost always listen to musicals on repeat after I see them and with this one I just don't fancy it. I'm so pleased so many people have loved this, but for some reason it just didn't connect to me. I'd likely give it 3 or 3.5, I realise this will be an unpopular opinion but I was a little bored and (putting the nails in my coffin here), like the reviewer, preferred Frozen. I guess that's the beauty of theatre and the arts in general, different people appreciate different things and each unique piece draws a unique reaction from each person.

I haven't seen it this time round but did see its original run. I remember enjoying the staging, Andy Karl's performance and having a feeling of enjoying it overall when i left the theatre. But otherwise quite forgettable and on the 'one and done' list for me.

Was upgraded from Upper Circle to centre stalls this afternoon. Was already excited to see it again after seeing it twice in 2016 but was even more delighted at this.

Any news and/or rumours of a further life for this after the old vic? It has had good reviews and seems to be selling strongly.
