I've been keeping an eye on the website because I thought they'd release any Row B tickets where they didn't get a response from the Row C people, managed to snag row B for closing night which is good. Might swap my earlier ticket if I can get the box office tomorrow and actually end up going twice.

Apologies to anyone I confused, it is Row B that appeared. I have no idea how I read A before! I did buy a front row seat for next week.

If anyone is interested, I just returned a £70 ticket for front row circle on 2nd June, and a £120 ticket for row B (front) of stalls for closing night. Swapped them both for a charity package ticket front of circle for closing night, since trying to get down earlier was too awkward.

Does anyone have any experience of sitting in the restricted view “pillar seats” at the far ends of Row Q in the stalls? Very keen to see this but most of the good seats cost far more than I’m willing to pay! Theatremonkey suggests these are good value for money so I’m tempted to give them a go. Always sit there if I can get them - bit of side to side head motion needed but it's fine really.

I am ridiculously excited. Anywhere locally good for food and drinks after the show? There are LOADS of decent places on The Cut - do you have a preference on cuisine / budget?

A tiny part of me has been expecting to get a notification at some point this week that the first preview is cancelled, just because of the nightmare there was with the preview period in the original run (though I expect removing the revolves has reduced the chances of that needing to happen significantly!).
I’ve just received the ‘we are looking forward to seeing you tomorrow’ email from the old vic so it’s pretty safe to say it’s happening!
I’ve been going on about this show for so long and have always promised everyone I told about it that if it ever came back I’d take them to see it. I’ve now ended up having to shell out to take 10+ friends and family members throughout the run. My wallet isn’t happy, but I am so excited to share this show with them all, starting tomorrow with my niece who is a current MT student - I just know she is going to love it!

I am beyond excited! They’ve released some rehearsal footage today and can already spot a few minor changes. Looks like there’s some new choreography involving *flags which I don’t remember from the original run*. I saw the first preview of the original Old Vic run. From memory. There were cast members walking through the revolve as "Phil" was singing to the audience, planting place name flags into holes in the revolve, which, as the revolve turned, dropped out and fell onto the stage, with a startled "Phil" stepping over them .. Unscripted comedy moment. Wasn't there on my next visit(s).

I’m the same, in banging on about this show to all and sundry, and I’m meant to be bringing one of my best friends with me tomorrow, but he’s just told me he might not be able to come and I’m gutted. Long drive from County Durham on your own. Never a problem going to the theatre on my own it’s just the afterwards, getting to and from cars/hotel etc. too last min to find anyone to come with me so will prob just drive down and then back again.
As for food, I’m pretty simple, but if I’m on my own will prob be a McDs on the A1!

Packing to head to London and realised it’s been over a decade since I saw an evening show in London. Are we talking jeans or can I get away with a dress?

It's really whatever you want to wear - I've seen (and worn) jeans and a skirt and I've seen others wearing dresses, although I haven't yet seen anyone in an evening gown.

Another video of the set from The Old Vic
By the look of it, it looks largely the same as the original production with the bedroom unit on tracks opposed to the revolve. Also looks like they have included the Tilt-A-Whirl part which was added for Broadway for "If I Have My Time Again".

Beyond excited to see this tonight! One of my greater regrets was not coming back after having seen an earlier preview performance in the first run. Have fun everyone!

Brief interval thoughts: the show is just as incredible as I remember. Andy is still absolutely perfect in the role. Quite a few costume, lyric and book changes but all are fine. They’re managing really well without the revolve - it’s a shame it’s gone but nothing major so far has been lost. The new choreography is great. Running very smoothly for a first preview.

Just fantastic! Few minor changes in score/lyrics. Near-perfect for a first review. Wonderful cast. Instant standing ovation at the end. So happy this is back! (5 stars)

I saw GHD tonight courtesy of the £10 previews, and was completely blown away. Later on I’ll look up whatever I said when I saw this the last time it was in London, but what problems I remember there being last time have gone.
I thought it was really excellent, I loved every minute of it, everyone should go see it. I could still nitpick at some of the songs, and some of the moments that killing the revolve have changed are less beautiful and elegant than they were originally, but in the end it’s a fun, witty and surprisingly clever musical that outstrips it’s source material.
Maybe it’s just seeing it again but I picked up a lot more on the philosophical and emotional strands this time around, the whole thing just feels very well evolved and ultimately a complete pleasure to watch. 5 stars.

Really nice to see this again after a good few years away.
I was a little worried that the lack of revolve would affect the show, but other than a few slightly clunkier transitions it really didn’t detract much from the show at all. The most obvious time I think It wasn’t present now was the scene with the piano lessons and the homeless guy on the bench. I did love the addition of the light ropes though.
Andy Karl was just as fantastic as I remember him being, absolutely perfectly cast. And I thought Tanisha Spring was brilliant as Rita, too.
There’s just something that makes me go 4 stars rather than 5 though. I know the soundtrack fairly well, and maybe it’s because I had seen it twice last time it was around but the only time big number in the show that I thought was a big wow moment was Philanthropy. I don’t really remember how it was staged/choreographed last time but I really loved this number tonight. But yes a brilliant show, in great shape, that was maybe just missing a little something for me, but perhaps that’s a first preview thing. 4 stars.

Slick, smooth, brilliant. Fantastic first preview - the timing, energy, music all excellent. Absolutely superb! Easy 5 stars from me.

I think they'll need a few previews just to be totally solid - it definitely felt like a preview - but I loved it.
Hadnt see it before, or heard much of the music so went in basically blind. Andy Karl is brilliant, as is Tanisha Spring as Rita - I'd argue they're the best leading duo in the west end right now.
Great cast, nice sized orchestra, lovely design. 4 stars currently, will be 5 in a week's time.
Can't wait to see it again.

This was long awaited for me and I will say from the outset I'm a huge Tim Minchin & Chris Nightingale fan, so may be a bit blinded by that.
Firstly - isn't the OV a beautiful theatre? I was in row K seat 24, perfect view, really good rake.
Band - 10 musicians, led brilliant by MD Alan Berry. Sound wise the band were on point, the mix was ace and never drowned the cast out. There were definitely a few mic issues, but for a preview, that's allowed!
Now, I'm going to slightly disagree with Being Alive above as I didn't view this as preview quality at all. I felt it was slick, much slicker than I was expecting!
The revolve wasn't a huge miss if I'm honest, and the old school theatrics are still as brilliant as ever. The car chase in particular is well done and I was pleased to see the twist and twirl was in.
The whole cast were superb but Andy Karl steals this show. He is Phil Connors.
Can't wait to head back to this on closing night.
5 stars.

I was in for the first show last night and was worried I wouldn’t love this show as much as I did seven years ago. I didn’t need to worry - I loved it even more! For me, this is close to musical theatre perfection. Initially I missed the revolves, feeling the early scenes especially had lost some of their impact, but there are enough additions to make up for it. (The waltzer is new, right?) And the lighting feels way more vibrant and colourful than I remembered. Andy Karl is absolutely perfect in this role - I can’t imagine anyone else doing it - and Tanisha Spring was excellent, too - bringing a fresh take to Rita and a beautiful voice. A few changes to lyrics that I noticed, but nothing major. A couple of moments didn’t quite work as perhaps intended, but am sure these will tighten up - {Spoiler - click to view} The transition from full size car to mini model was quite clunky, and I remember the closing scene being more of a big-impact moment first time around. Last night it was upstaged by the blizzard a few minutes earlier. But these are very minor niggles. I can’t wait to return. 5/5
