Any more word on the rumoured Savoy transfer? Is it happening? A GHD cast member who shall remain nameless was loudly telling friends in a bar the other day that they won’t be doing the transfer as they’ve booked a tour for another show, so something seems to be moving along if they’re to be believed. Although I’d take that with a pinch of salt. Edit: And it seems my scepticism was correct! |

Anybody aware of any current deals on Groundhog Day? Recent days have seen a fair amount of availability but seats on the OV site have been priced at the upper end of their dynamic pricing, yet they seem to be shifting by the bucket load on the day. No deals to be seen on TKTS - am wondering how they are shifting so many on the day... Standing tix available from box office once they have sold out the performance. Look online a few hours before, if it looks like it will sell out, call box office and check standing available before heading to the theatre |

They're still hoping for a future life sometime, but it's not headed to the Savoy in the Spring as previously discussed

I havent heard anything since I was told (by a very reliable source) that it was going to the Savoy. Perhaps it’s fallen apart for some reason!

Oh no - what a terrible shame if that's the case, and not what this show deserves. I wonder what's happened. I did see this from yesterday, which seems to indicate that something positive is happening - although not sure if it's anything concrete.. |

I'd say from that video that a transfer is in the offing with a cast shuffle - maybe not to Savoy but to another theatre - though MrBarnaby is rarely wrong on these things. |

If anyone is on the lookout for a single ticket on Saturday, I have a post up on the noticeboard about one available. Apparently I have absolutely zero luck when it comes to getting to see the show, so keep your fingers crossed for me actually making it to the closing night next week.

Has it not sold well at the Old Vic? Maybe if it hadn’t they have got cold feet I think it has sold decently but not been the sell-out success of the original run… |

There were no available seats for the Groundhog matinee yesterday so the tickets for the final few shows are selling fasst

Well, this was pretty great! Went in with measured expectations as I don’t love the film but was really impressed. Probably one of the rare times I’ve watched a musical and found the second act to be stronger than the first.
Absolutely loved the songs/score. The one exception (and I think perhaps someone else was referencing this earlier up in the thread) was towards the end when a lone acoustic guitar let silences go on for a little too long. But otherwise lovely tunes and funny, touching lyrics.
There were a few empty seats tonight which meant I got to upgrade myself from the pillar view I’d had in the first half, so I was quite glad about that.

Shame to hear about empty seats - I know the Old Vic is a not for profit organisation but holding out for £140 for the premium seats and then leaving them empty seems like cutting their nose off to spite their face. Whoever is managing the price strategy on Groundhog Day needs to up their game and drop the seat prices a little to get a full house. Not difficult really - I bet there are many "repeat visitors" like me who will gladly do one more show... just not at £140 or £90 (or whatever the seats aren't selling for). Stalls seats priced at £50 on the day will sell out this show - so why does the OV price-gouge the very audience it should want to retain as a "not for profit" organisation?

I saw this last night, having been totally blown away by the original Old Vic production, and once again found myself in awe. Almost nothing is lost to the (only slightly) scaled back staging, and the production retains all of its humour, heart, and emotional impact. This time round, I was even more impressed by how effortlessly and charismatically Andy Karl holds our attention through almost every scene of this show. Tanisha Spring was a revelation as Rita, and both she and Eve Norris impressed with stunning vocals.
I wish I still lived in London so I could go back again before it closes. Fingers crossed for that tour…

But still better to get it sold for £30 by having a last minute solution available than leaving the drink/merch buying seat empty. Doesn’t matter what the show is.

I understand how business works. You make widgets, you sell widgets. If you cant get the price you want for widgets,you drop the price til your widgets sell or you go bust. Leaving widgets on display unsold that could sell easily at a lower price is not good business. That's not a good comparison, theatres can't survive if they sold everything at super low prices because they'd end up losing money. |
