No queuing online, just on phone websites it seems. Got myself 4 tickets for the second preview after a bit of playing around as a few times one or more of my selection was held by someone else Perhaps that was me and you as I had a few moments like that too, also 2nd preview on Sat 16 July - Stalls Row E (2 tickets) Went straight in at 12pm (no queue) |

Pffft, I had to settle for a slightly away from centre view as I eventually figured that everyone was probably trying to get central seats and taking them all.
We have been at the same show a few times now, it's like Groundhog Day  .

Ugh! I failed to find a half-decent pair. What a horrible system, that put me in a queue 5 mins before 12 and then let some of you straight in at 12.
Ended up grabbing a singe in the circle and some guilt when I tell my friend she can't go. But really not going to do the severely restricted side circles - I'm sure she'd rather pay a bit more later on in the run (she's not as keen as me anyway).

Managed to get tickets for the 22nd July. Towards the front of stalls just off centre. Excited for a new Tim Minchin musical and for Andy Karl!

On my second attempt to get tickets (after being 1008 in the queue), finally got to the front of the queue and couldn't find anything left of the preview priced tickets. Not surprised, and I was only looking to go again as a treat for my mum, but nevermind.
I'm sorry for anyone unable to get good tickets and put in queues while a few of us just rocked up and got immediate tickets.

I am so annoyed. There's still 255 people in the queue! I was hoping maybe tickets would drop from baskets later but there's obviously fat chance of that.
Have offered my friend the sole single ticket because I can't handle that much guilt. Though I would have to collect it from the box office so I guess I'll have to try booking a more expensive seat for the same performance if she wants it.

Forgot these went on sale today until half an hour ago, got a seat in the upper circle for 15th July, if the bench seating is really uncomfortable I can take consolation in only having paid £11.50 and head to the bar instead.

I just did exactly the same, using the same logic. Am booked in a good seat later in the run anyway, but like being there at the start... and for £10 (OK, £11.50), seems mad not to! |

I wouldn't feel guilty being only able to get a single ticket. It's the risk we play sometimes on these cheap release tickets.
If I were your friend and you put yourself out of pocket on an expensive seat at the same performance I would offer to split the total cost between us as I too would feel guilty about you sacrificing yourself for my benefit through a situation no fault of your own.

The system must have been playing up, though - if I was 280th in the queue, which the system said I was, how come so few tickets left when I got in? I didn't see a single clear view pair I could get in my basket across the run. Unless they were extremely selective about what seats they were releasing across the performances so there were very few decent seats.

There was a problem with some people not having to queue for some reason. So the queue may have been 280 deep, but many more people purchased tickets without queuing, myself included. I didn't even know the queuing mechanic existed until I came on here having already purchased my tickets. |

I was 633 in the queue when I attempted at about 1 second past midday (if only I'd come on here before midday and seen people were already queuing). I then opened an incognito window at about 25 past when I realised people weren't all queuing. I tried a different way of attempting to book tickets, instead of pressing "book tickets" I picked a day from their calendar and that got me into the booking pages. I didn't mention it on here because at that point there were pretty much none of the seats left. Also I closed the window and tried my new way again and it didn't work any more. Not sure why the system favoured some over others but it was annoying. I finally got to the front of the queue at about 12:50 in my original window.

My ticket problem has unexpectedly been solved. Someone who had a spare pair saw my moaning tweets and asked if I'd like to buy theirs. So now we're both going on the 15th July!
Lillian Baylis circle on the side, so not prime seats, but at least we get to go together!
Depending on how much I enjoy it I might now have a spare to sell for the matinee in the 23rd - if it's great I'll just go again!

Thats ridiculously bad producing if true with a budget like that and a small house. Hamiltons kind of luck is extremely rare so they shouldnt be relying on high ticket prices. I cant imagine why its budget would be so high, the story doesnt seem to call for much excess.

Interestingly I can't find anything to substantiate that that is really a massive budget for Broadway, particularly if it includes mounting both the Old Vic and Broadway runs (they will have to retech, and no doubt do partial rewrites). $16.5 million is a lot of but money, but Wicked was $14 million, The Lion King and Billy Elliot both $20 million a piece, Shrek was $25 million (Spider-man did over double that at $60 million but is a bit atypical). And those are without inflation.

Apparently the Broadway transfer of Matilda cost (surprisingly!) $16 million so it isn't hugely different at all. With Matilda closing in January maybe the Shubert would be a better place for it? I know the Old Vic stage may not be as big but surely it could be modified slightly?
I'm actually quite surprised to see quite a lot of seats left for August for the Old Vic run, I would have thought given Matilda's success and Tim Minchin's fanbase this would sell a bit quicker than this.

The difference is matilda is expensive because of the kids, any show with kids will be expensive to run. But it also went into theatres that could help turn a profit. With such a high profile producer leaving thats got to be a concern. I just cant see why groundhog day would need to be staged so expensively to tell its story
Im wondering if this will be another Ghost, just unsustainable numbers.

Interesting ive not had any. Although it doesnt surprise me if it isnt selling strongly. Old movie, unknown cast and tim minchin is no where near as big a name as some people seem to think. And if a composer like alw cant sell a show on his name alone then tim minchin wont

This weeks email was something to do with seeing Minchin perform a song from the show plus the opportunity to buy tickets but I deleted it without reading so dont know if the Minchin performance was linked in the email or was an upcoming thing like The One Show.
