I would speak with the theatre, but the earlier posts indicate that this is not a one-off glitch related only to me. It's not a screw up, it's just poor marketing. I'd be pretty cross if I had stumped up the £34 for membership simply to access the pre-sale (as I was considering) and then discovered that they'd sent out a promo code to non-members as it appears they have. As it is I'm grateful to the members who have sent me the code and saved me having to do that.

I hadn't booked with them at all before and got the email with the code.

Went for Dress Circle D9/10. Wanted two seats together so I can sit with my sister, I'm sure we can cope with the obstruction by leaning into each other!

Running joke in the cast at the moment- the amount of workshops taking place working and re-working the script feels like a Groundhog Day has already engulfed the production!

If anybody needs a priority booking code, Tim Minchin has posted one on his own website.

Bit odd. Still, very pleased I didn't bother becoming a member as I was considering. (And I do follow Tim Minchin on Twitter which is where I saw the code, before we get back to the debate we were having at the top of this page!)

I'm a higher level of member than the £34 and I didn't get the code either ... a bit of a rum do but then as I wasn't that bothered about seeing the show, it doesn't matter ...

Yes but sadly the login on the website doesn't work either so unless it is sorted out it looks like I will be on the dedicated phone line...

Time Out are now offering a discount code to early booking
Is this designed to discourage membership?

I would assume that members are members not just for one musical but because they are general supporters of the Old Vic and their offerings, which are mostly plays anyway. Even post-Spacey they often do 'starry' plays with high ticket demand.
Perhaps demand for Groundhog Day isn't as strong as they had hoped, so they try to stir the pot a bit. They might have overestimated the allure of Tim Minchin's name. I mean, yes, his work for Matilda was great, but I think Matilda works on its own strength, a well-known book and a great show to take the kids to, so people aren't even that aware of who wrote the music & lyrics. Meanwhile Groundhog Day, at least at first glance, just looks like yet another in a very long line of lacklustre film-to-stage adaptations the world has not been waiting for. Just my thoughts. I would have seen it, if the dates had worked out for my summer trip, but it doesn't really fill me with excitement, Minchin nonwithstanding.

I was sent a promotion code despite having never to my knowledge booked with the Old Vic. Odd.
Bought some tickets anyway though, Tim Minchin being the main draw.

Anyone have any advice on whether it's better to take some of the early seats via TimeOut or wait until the midday scramble tomorrow?

Anyone have any advice on whether it's better to take some of the early seats via TimeOut or wait until the midday scramble tomorrow? There are enough codes floating around to get booking immediately directly via the Old Vic (if the TimeOut one isn't, I don't know) - so I'd just jump in now if I were you.

I don't know why it didn't occur to me to find the codes, thanks for suggesting it. Booked now for 30th July evening.

Would anyone be able to point me in the direction of one of the codes please? Sure you have booked already but Tim Minchins website had it up about a week ago.

The marketing machine seems to be heavily rolling for this. Does anyone know if it's selling well.

I haven't heard or seen anything about this since it was officially announced, other than Tim Minchin putting the promo code on his website!

Obviously he doesn't give anything really juicy away but it's nice to hear his general approach and perspective on the project. Seemingly it's going to be a lot different than the comedic version the film plays to, and we aren't going for any Bill Murray like comparisons with the lead character.
