Thinking of catching this in Woking when it heads there. Have never seen the film or watched/read the play, the main draw for me is Jodie Prenger, having not seen her in anything as of yet but been a fan for a while, ever since I voted her for I'd Do Anything haha.

The play, as a one-woman show, is quite different from the film, but if you've seen neither that matters not a jot! I saw it on Monday and thought Jodie did a cracking job - go for it!

Sounds good - I've got tickets to see this in Brighton in July. I love the film, so it will be interesting to see how the original play is done.

Please be sure to report back after the show westendcub I'd love to know your opinions!
One thing I have noticed on the website, there is a month gap in August between dates. Is this a break for Jodie before the next leg of the tour begins, as in September there are two venues announced with more to be announced?

Stands up well so far although Shirley's accent is wavering a bit!

That was lovely, Jodie had a great stage presence and carried the one woman show well (Aye it did slip to Geordie once or twice ce but she can do a good Scouse accent).
What striked me was just how faithful the film is to the original text.
I have one tiny niggle, there is a scene & costume change in Act 1, they played a Moby song which really took me out of the play. Lovely period detail of the set to look like the 80's but a modern song was an odd choice!!
Nice I can now I've seen this on the stage!!

I could only really remember one line from the film 'Aren't men full of sh*t?' which of course got a big laugh.
Jodie was great wasn't she? It's not just a comic play but a very poignant one, too, and as a woman who is now OLDER than Shirley is in the play it reached me in quite a different way that it did when I was in my teens. The ending is a very sad one, in many ways.

I must admit, I have never seen the film, nor read or seen the play, so am rather intrigued and excited to see the matinee today. As said previously, my only draw to this one is Jodie but I hve head that the play ia great too so am looking forward to it from both aspects!

Well its easy to see why Jodie won that show, and deserves her success. A terrific actress and natural comedienne. She is brilliant! Audience are loving it! Upper Circle closed but pretty full everywhere else. Its clear to see that both Willy Russell and Jodie are audience favourites and rightly so.

Hope you enjoyed the rest of the show. I've no idea where the tours headed as its been completely off my radar but it sounds like it has greater merit than I expected

Sorry to say Far inferior To the highly acclaimed Menier revival With Meera Syal Yes I hugely enjoyed that production with Meera Syal. Fabulous play and performance. Saw it when it transferred to the Trafalgar Studios & it played in rep with Educating Rita. Saw Shirley in the afternoon and Rita in the evening. My bum didn't half hurt after a whole day in those seats! Haven't seen Jodie and I don't see when I'll get round to it, but she more than has the personality for it, though I can imagine her being a touch hammy. Meera had a wonderful balance of natural comedy and sincerity. Looked like she made a cracking egg & chips, too.

I thought it was fanrastic, Jodie is a real star! Full house standing ovation, walked out toward the train station and she was signing at the stage door so thought I'd run over and say well done, she gave alot of hugs and great chit chat, spending real time with everyone, a lovely woman, a fantsstic role for her! May be tempted to catch this again.

And out of those listed, I have only seen The Girls and 42nd Street. Including this, 42nd Street definitely earns it, Jodie deserved it in my opinion, and The Girls is a pleasant and fun evening.

I also saw this on the Monday 20th. A pretty impressive performance by Jodie who to my shame had never heard of before. Some great lines that got quite a few laughs. The two sets was great, I hope the tour goes well.
