Thing Dirty Dancing is heading back to the West End as another filer before The Girls opens at the Phoenix.

Has anyone seen the current tour? Apparently it's a new production with different set design (and costumes?) to the previous tours/West End runs.

Glad the Phoenix won't be empty!
Good show for a filler

I mean, when I saw it last (the Piccadilly run) it was good. But not spectacular, just good fun. To be conpletely honest I can barely remember it... my main excitement was that I was asat next to an Ensemble cast member of Wicked!

Well funnily enough that Finale was the best part of the whole show.

Easy filler if you ask me, well loved movie (I've never seen it) which will appeal to tourists, theatre goers and non theatre goers whomlike the film. Only 30 performances too so not like a huge risk.

I'd consider going back to see if my enjoyment of it has changed since three years ago at the Piccadilly until now... as I say, I enjoyed it but it wasn't incredible or very memorable for me. If there is a better time for them to come in for a short run, it is the Christmas period.
For those wondering General Sale opens today.
The performance schedule is:
Monday - Thursday: 19:30 Friday: 17:30/20:30 Saturday: 14:30/19:30
No performances on Christmas Eve, otherwise standard performance times.

Yes, bringing a show into the West End is expensive, relative to touring, but for what will be a touring show £95-£120 for premiums seems very high, especially as I've heard this isn't the best production yet. Thankfully the upper circle is affordable at £25/£35.

There's also a Spanish production in Madrid coming this Christmas. I'm totally booking, since I wasn't able to see it in London.

This is coming to a theatre near me next year and I was considering going to see it. I've just seen a few videos on youtube and I am very confused. Do the main characters not sing any of the songs? Seems like a poor attempt at a musical.

Seems like a poor attempt at a musical. Its not really a musical, it is a play with music. Two ensemble members sing some of the songs, but alot of the songs are played as background music. But no, the main cast don't sing at all if I remember rightly.

That sounds kind of disappointing. There are a lot of cheaper tours that I'm more interested in so I'll avoid this.

It's not a bad show if you take it for what it is...it just depends what sort of thing you like. It's basically the film on stage. It's good fun, if you like the film you'll enjoy it. But if you want to see a musical, that's one thing it isn't! It's one that the hen parties flock to in their droves - I worked FOH on it for 4 weeks on its last tour and I tell you, I could contribute multiple pages to the Bad Behaviour thread!!

It's in Madrid right now and I'm pretty sure it's the same show (same logo and everything). But after reading your last comments I think I'll pass...

This is playing at my work this week and it's very good! The set is pretty good for a tour and the crowd LOVE it, considering it was a Monday night. But then again, sometimes the crowd that would see a show like this, would go see it regardless of the quality, sorry to be cynical I haven't seen a programme but the lady that sings most of the songs that are actually sang live, is excellent. I'll check the website to see who she is. I find it unusual that the lead role of Johnny has 2 alternates and 2 understudies ? It's not the most difficult of roles...
