Which long running musical currently playing in the west end do you think should be axed retired and the theatre released for something else? And what fantasy production would you replace it with?

I know it's not on the west end, but the Ghost tour should be released for something else.

I already got my wish when Billy Elliot closed and is making way for Hamilton. Not a fan of the show and still admittedly bitter that it won the Tony over the far superior Next to Normal.

Close The Lion King (please!) and make the Lyceum the Disney theatre.

I shouldn't really say it as I haven't seen it (though I'm sure some people may agree with me) but Thriller Live! seeing as it always seems to be touring.

Musical wise, I'd like to see Mamma Mia! move or close to make way for a new show. The Lyceum would be good for Frozen but i imagine if that ended up transferring, it'd probably go to the Dominion, Drury Lane or Palladium. This may be an unpopular opinion but I'm never sad when a long runner closes, to me the West End needs to continue to refresh itself and having long runners clog up theatres like museum pieces isn't healthy for theatre, this applies to plays as well.

Les Mis and Phantom are way past their bedtime. Should've closed years ago. Agree with BurlyBeaR for Lion King.

Thriller! Live and Stomp need to get into its grave. I liked both, good fun but its time to go.
Also, even though I enjoyed the show, I would agree with The Lion King.

Phantom and Lion King bore me senseless. Please close them! I've never seen Thriller but I'm guessing it's a pile of poo ...

I agree about the Lion King. I was so bored watching it and I just don't get its popularity at all. I've never seen Thriller (and don't want to) but I also don't get how that keeps going either.

I think Thriller keeps going because it attracts international tourists with limited English skills - they will enjoy the well-known MJ songs and dance routines and needn't worry about following a plot. Same with Stomp and to some extent Mamma mia. Still I'd like to see the three of them gone. Sure, there should be room for tourist musicals with no/little language bareers, but how about something FRESH at least?
Seeing as the Ambassadors Theatre (Stomp) has only 450 seats or so I'd love to see it used for more risky new musicals (that die a death when opening cold in a bigger theatre) or for smaller musical revivals à la Menier or now Charing X Theatre. Same goes for the Fortune Theatre (Woman in Black) which could receive small musicals and plays that aren't commercially viable enough for a larger theatre.
I would also like to see Phantom gone. It feels so tired and creaky. Why not close it and bring it back as a big revival in a fresh production in ten years' time? Could replace it with a Broadway import. Could argue the same for Les Mis, though oddly (to me) it doesn't seem so tired, not sure why really.
I don't mind Lion King running, really, as it seems to be a good family show. But I wouldn't mind seeing it gone either and replaced by a new Disney show like Frozen or something new altogether.

I'll be glad to see the back of Funny Girl in a couple of weeks time, if only to see the thread on this board slipping down the charts. Far too much attention for such a slight piece. And must clock up as the shortest long runner in years and years...
For the same reason, Wicked. Isn't that show kept going by the same people attending night after night?
I would have said Les Mis and Phantom, but- depending on who the reviewer is (on here, I mean)- they both seem to go through periods of renewed brilliance after periods of mediocrity, and they genuinely seem to be gaining newer and newer fans, replacing us of old. I'd hate those two to become old relics that only appeal to tourist bus groups (like Thriller, for example) because they're worth so much more than that.
Oh yes... In The Heights. That can go too. That seems to have limping along for too long, judging from the number of deals there have been for this almost since it opened.
I'd like to see them replaced with something that surprises me. Most (but not all) of the stuff these days is so predictable.

Surprised Stomp extended to 2018, thought that would've closed by now but I know it relies on tourists lots. Thriller should go too to give the Lyric space for well known play revivals.

Another vote for the Lions, Thriller and Phantom/Les Mis. I am fond of Phantom and Les Mis but I'd also prefer them to go away and come back refreshed. And although it'll never die completely, same for Mama Mia, let it live on in endless tours instead.

And of course the obvious Thriller!, Stomp and the Lion King - all of which are now tired and becoming dated. In comparison to these three, it has not run as long, but Matilda is another for me - it's still a box office hit here, but the Cambridge is the perfect size theatre for new musicals in my opinion. It's only really just opened, but Motown as well - after only a short run it has already served its only purpose - to provide the music of motown.

I'll chuck in another vote for Phantom, though I can't quite bring myself to do the same for Les Mis. I don't mind Thriller's existence, but I'd quite like to see it shifted to the Apollo so I never have to set foot in there again.

Wicked, if only coz of the awful show queens that sit in the front row and applaud and wail to something they have seen 4,000 times, let's close it down and they can get their lives back

Another vote for Thriller, Lion King and Stomp. I'm surprised no one mentioned The Mousetrap.
ETA: Oh, okay, cause we're only discussing musicals.

I'm surprised no-one has ever thought of turning The Mousetrap into a musical.
(Perhaps they have. Perhaps it's touring somewhere...)

Any jukebox show currently running! Even though I have to admit that "Mamma Mia" is one of my guilty pleasures.
I don't mind Phantom (the first musical I ever saw) and Les Mis (my first west end experience) staying for a few more years and achieving "Mousetrap"-status. But my personal obsession with Les Miz and frequent visits came to an end when they moved to the Queen's and introduced the new (scaled down) orchestrations.

And even though I've seen it at the Queen's, four or five times, it never seems the same as as it was before.
