I connected to Joannas sally so much more as well. I think she created a more believable character and I was devastated for her when she had to go back to her old life but Imelda didnt really do that for me

I also saw it and it sounds really interesting but too late for me on a school night.

I was interested but couldn't really justify a trip into town for a 1 hour cabaret.

It's over by 10 30 so no later than a lot of current shows. I was there last night and it's sweet but also very slight. Definitely worth catching, though, if you're nearby and I gather the lineup will vary from night to night. Imelda was there last night with her husband. Couldn't get a handle on the rest of the audience, many of whom seemed very grumpy for no particular reason.

Sensational last night helped by a very appreciative audience. Applause for all the ladies for their staircase entrance, mid show standing ovation for Who's That Woman and a long, loud ovation at the end. The cast, orchestra and crew who all came on at the end looked genuinely moved by the response.
Yes. Superb final performance, everybody in the cast absolutely at the top of their game, and the curtain call was quite an experience.
...although my evening got off to a flying start before the show, when the (younger) gentleman (mid-20s at most) sitting to my right delivered a breathless monologue to his boyfriend (sitting to his right) about how the production looked, like, soooooo much better in the Olivier than it had done during the first run in the Lyttelton. I was very good. I managed not to laugh out loud.
(Little hint for the boyfriend: you seem like a nice guy. You can do better.)

Saw Janie Dee last night, she's a great cabaret performer; funny and charismatic. She was also in fine voice giving us Ain't Misbehavin, Summertime, Mr Snow, Caberet and of course Could I Leave You. She also has a nice line in comic songs with Copytype and Private Delight. Some info on her future plans, she's been asked to play Fosca in Passion in Italy and is involved with a series of Ayckbourn's children's shows at the Cockpit later this year to celebrate his 80th Birthday.

Despite watching Inspector Montalbano last night, my Italian isn't what it should be, but looks like it's only 12 and 13 July, in a place called Montepulciano(?). www.fondazionecantiere.it

Aw damn, it's a month before I go (and like a 4 hour drive away from where I'm staying anyway so that's not the only deal breaker). Oh well, the broadcast with Donna Murphy is on YouTube and I don't know how anyone would be able to top that version, even the wonderful Janie Dee.

It's pretty decent quality as far as I remember and it's well filmed with gorgeous lighting and Donna Murphy is a revelation. Such gorgeous music too, just don't go in expecting distinct numbers, there's lots of repeating themes, interconnected songs and a lot of it is somewhat recitative even though it isn't sung through, but the music and direction create such an incredible atmosphere. It's definitely top 5 Sondheim for me.

(I hope this isn't too off topic.) This evening I saw Dame Felicity Lott in concert & she did three songs from Follies. One More Kiss, her number in the production, and also Broadway Baby and Losing My Mind. I found it very interesting hearing them done by a different type of voice to usual.

I'm curious, Dawnstar . At the end of her concert did she say, "Right then ladies and gentleman, that's your Lott"?

I'm afraid not but her final song, at the end of a selection of Richard Rodgers numbers, was The Lonely Goatherd! I never expected to hear that sung by an operatic soprano!
