It’s an absolutely wonderful recording. Getting a studio recording of Phillip Quast singing Too Many Mornings is sort of all I need in life. But they’re all belters. Well done NT.

A little disappointed about all the cuts from instrumental bits of songs especially Who's That Woman just because it's a little jarring when I've listened to other forms of the songs so many times but I'm glad to have a recording with this cast in any form at least.

This is all VERY sudden. How am I gonna schedule my first listen so last minute??
This is the modern way now - an album just DROPS unexpectedly.
NT keeping up with the times...

This was poor live in the Theatre and the recording simply highlights the vocal weaknesses of the female performers. Good luck to all who listen.......

Absolutely! The crescendo of the song is ruined because it doesn’t have the lead-up

I actually have a fair bit of it a listen last night. The Orchestra sounds amazing, and comes off better here than in the theatre in my opinion. Could I Leave You and I'm Still Here are clear highlights for me though, which wouldn't surprise anybody as they were the highlights of the live production for me too.

Is this a soundtrack to the live video recording, a live recording from another performance or a studio recording?

Am I the only kinda disappointed with this recording? Really wish they hadn’t cut so much of it I'd say overall I'm disappointed. I really wanted this to be the definitive recording since so much of the original is cut, the original London recording has different songs, the Broadway revival is good for being so complete but I'm not a huge fan of Bernadette Peters in that even though I normally love her. I have the pro-shot of this version to listen to thankfully but the sound mixing on that is off in places (especially Who's that Woman and the end of Broadway Baby) so I was hoping this would fix that problem but so many instrumental parts of songs are cut down so I guess I'm just gonna have to stick with the pro-shot.

This isn't my favourite Sondheim score but another vote for I'm Still Here as one of the best of the recording (and a personal favourite) but the mix towards the end gets a bit strange. You can hear where Tracey backs off from the mic with the bigger notes and the studio room comes through, I'm surprised that made it through the mix, I guess it's a case of best take vs sound best.

I had a quick browse through some of my favourite songs.
I feel I saw a different show. It sounds very poor.
I was really looking forward to Janie Dee but I'll be back to my Jan Maxwell recording.

It's abridged, though nowhere near as abridged as the OBC. They've snipped out some dance music and some passages where the orchestra vamps underneath dialogue between verses of a song, presumably so they can get the total length down to what will fit on a single CD.

One thing that stuck out to me with Tracie's number, they've slowed it down a fair bit it seems. I had that scene from her entrance to her exit in that scene, with the dialogue before on my tablet when it was put on YouTube, and it was only five minutes long, the whole scene, her here it is just over six minutes, just the song.

As I am off to see Follies in a few weeks time I thought I'd have a look at the new cast. It looks like quite a few new names from last time but my biggest joy was seeing that Harry Hepple is in the new cast. Oh joy!
