I think Tracie Bennett is great. She was amazing in Over The Rainbow and both West End Recast.

I'm not sure about this one. Her singing in Mrs Henderson, especially her vibrato, was so exaggerated & distracting - but maybe that was her character, though I did think slightly the same thing in End of the Rainbow. You really, REALLY want a big beltress for this character/song, but the jury's out til I've seen her do it!

I actually thought Tracie was fab in Mrs Henderson Presents and I can see her in a Sondheim like this.

I'm more scared that I'm not gonna be able to get tickets!!

Don't be scared, george... Just keep everything in perspective. I mean, there are scarier things in life: for instance, you might get your tickets for Follies. And this is after Sheridan has announced that she will be making her first National Theatre appearance in it. But then on the night you go, she's off sick, and Amanda Holden is announced as her replacement (no refunds unfortunately as the producers have done what they are required to do and found someone to step in... Oh, and it has completely sold out for the entire run.) Or you might wake up on Sunday morning and find that Santa hasn't been. Or your mum might find out you've done no homework this past year and ban you from coming on here. For life. You see what I mean? There's scary and then there's Scary!

That is so out of context, really patronising and just plain rude! What has that got to do with Follies? You've done this before, don't be rude and talk personal to me when you don't even know who I am!! That comment about 'homework' is just so out of context, again, you don't know any of my school life or anything. I do well at school. What I commented about FOLLIES (what this thread is on) was a throw away comment about how much I want to see the show.

I don't think Caiaphas was trying to be rude in his comment, just pointing out that in life there are a lot of things scarier than not getting theatre tickets (though sometimes it doesn't feel like it). I think you'll get tickets fine, just keep an eye out for the on sale date and get right on it .

Well, I don't think Caiaphas was trying to be polite in his comment. There are less patronising ways of reassuring someone, or keeping things in perspective.

George, if someone crosses a line, you can use the "report post" function to get the admins to take a look (and this doesn't have to be just if someone's crossed a line towards you, it can be anything that seems excessive to you). The admins here are pretty good about hopping on things promptly and they work hard to deal as fairly as they can. Failing that, you know how they say you should just ignore bullies so they get bored and move on? It's not really a practical suggestion if the bully is in your everyday life, but it's a pretty good technique on a discussion forum. There's even an "ignore" function if you find it's the same names popping up multiple times and you just don't want to see it anymore.

I do 't think Caiaphas was trying to be horrible either, a joke maybe taken the wrong way, but not horrible. Just their sense of humour.

We should be careful with the word bully too. I underdtand that the victim is the one who determines bullying but it is not really fair to throw that word out there, especially as this is a discussion board and words can be taken the wrong way unintentionally.

I think Tracie Bennett is going to SLAY this role. She belted her whole body off in End of the Rainbow, I can only imagine what she's going to do with the last few lines of I'm Still Here.

(My opinion) Bennett is an ugly performer. This dates from beyond SHE LOVES ME in which she mugged throughout. I tried with her Garland but it simply wasn't good and I failed to understand how it could have survived with such a performer missing the mark. The voice has gone (Mrs Henderson) and I shudder to think of her mangling through "I'm Still Here".

I loved her in hairspray- but she was playing a grotesque so it was a perfect fit.

Her performance in Mrs Henderson was jaw droppingly inept. To be fair- she should never have been cast.

I don't mind Tracie, she sang a great Broadway Baby at the Hey Old Friends concert last year and she has delivered some very fine performances. I hated her in Mrs. Henderson, I still don't understand why they let her play the role as if Laura were the mistress of a brothel. I don't think this is a terrible piece of casting, but I was hoping for someone more glamorous (Vanessa Williams needs to play the role!) or iconic (like Betty Buckley reprising the part).

It's certainly bringing some lurkers out, both against and for her! 

I thought she was pretty universally popular in MT-land. I saw her in Guys and Dolls years ago and she was very good.
