I think for non ATG theatres the policy will vary from theatre to theatre. agreed - sophizoey your best bet is to speak to the theatres direct. I know that Birmingham do student standby: best available seats for the cheapest price, available from 24 hours before the performance. However I highly doubt they will offer any for Wicked given that they are virtually sold out already. Don't know about Leeds I'm afraid!

It's a nine show week so Nikki is on tonight and Charli is on for the matinee tomorrow.
I've treated myself to a trip to Liverpool and am very excited to report back to you all later on any subversive riffing activity... 😉

I've treated myself to a trip to Liverpool and am very excited to report back to you all later on any subversive riffing activity... 😉 Nikki is a riffer 😂 So lots to report on, heard an audio of her going for an Ab on 'defyING gravity', which is a rare feat that has been pulled off by one other Elphaba. She's got some great acting though, so great I came out of the show last Wednesday declaring her my new favourite (Which is still standby)

Nikki has such a lovely voice. There is no need for any elaboration or non essential riffing. The "things I've never felt" riff well, we expect that now from everyone. Riffs at the flying bit of Defying Gravity? Expected. Anywhere else in Act One? Not needed! There were a few at the beginning of DG and they don't fit for me. They are redundant riffs!
She's probably the only Elphaba I've seen who really acted like a young almost sulky teen. She's great. Is she "OMG best ever amazing"? Probably not but she is good. Also she is the only green girl I've ever known who sings "unlimiTID" and not "unlimiTED".
I've never seen Helen before but she's the next best thing to Dianne Pilkington we have ever had so obviously I love her.

Some final thoughts..
I judge my fave Elphaba's by how they sing No Good Deed. It got rapturous applause but it was a little too much of throwing everything in including the kitchen sink for me.
I didn't warm to Aaron particularly. He had a good voice but precious few other redeeming features to the point that I couldn't imagine why Elphaba would have risked her friendship with Glinda in the first place. It's like Matt Willis all over again but we have been spoilt in recent times with Oliver and Bradley.
Iddon was very good. He reminds me of Sam Lupton in the way that they both throw everything into that character, when they must be so bored of it and could phone it in.
Ensemble were top of their game.

Deciding whether i want to wait out for whenever Nikki does a show.
I know i might be being unfair just judging on this but i have let myself listen to a few recordings of Amy and i feel like she won't suit me because for me i'm all about the vocals and power and belts, and from what i get from the recordings Amy sounds more subtle and probably more about the acting.
I mean tell me if i'm wrong and she slays (lord did i just say that?) the vocals cus then i will just go whenever and be fine seeing her but if not, Nikki sounds more my cup of tea.

If you're all about the vocals then I'd say go and see Nikki. Amy is (like you think) far more about the acting, don't get me wrong her voice is still brilliant and I wasn't disappointed in the slightest with her take on the role but Nikki definitely has more power to her voice. I've seen both and can honestly say I don't mind who I catch the next time I see the tour, they're both fantastic and worthy of that role but they do have very different takes. Nikki gives you the power and is mainly about the voice, whereas Amy is more about the acting.

You're probably right. She's definitely a solid vocalist live, comfortably in the top half of Elphabas I've seen, possibly even top third, but her acting is the strongest part of the package. Conversely, Nikki Bentley is an insane belter so if it's the three big songs you're more interested in, she will probably be the Elphaba for you.

I saw both this week and Nikki is all out belting Elphaba and Act One Amy is all meek and mild. Her Act 2 is much more powerful though, very like Rachel Tucker the first time round.
I liked both lots for different reasons and both are certainly worth seeing.

I haven't seen Nikki so can't comment! But I'll be honest I went and saw Amy not expecting anything different to any other portrayal I have seen but was left amazed by her!
She was something else, acted perfectly and I thought the vocals were insane and flawless ... I can guarantee if you saw Amy you wouldn't be dissapointed!
I must say the video of the Irelands Got Talent performance was amazing, but didn't do Amy justice! She sounds much much much better in person! A real win for me in the Elphaba rankings! 👌🏼👍🏼

I've now booked to see the tour after loving the London production.
Mainly because I want to see Amy and compare her to Alice, but I just want more!

They are not similar at all, but both are pretty spectacular in their own way.

Does anyone know if Amy and Helen come to stage door after matinees? It would be lovely if I could meet them but I wouldn't count on it, seeing as it's a double day and the Edinburgh Playhouse stage door is hidden away down a series of alleyways, far from the theatre entrance.

No idea, but thanks for the pre warning on the stage door. I just booked my train tickets, I'll have to hunt it out when I get there.

I've not actually been to it but I think you go out of the theatre, turn right, go down the next alley, then turn right into a sort of courtyard bit. It's a bit more complicated than the AV but it's probably easier to find in real life!

I was at the matinee yesterday. Nikki Bentley was on as Elphaba, Benjamin Yates was on as Fiyero, and Grace Chapman was on as Nessarose. They were all fabulous in their roles. I am no expert in riffs, but Nikki's NGD was something special. Benjamin and Grace were both really confident in their roles and have strong voices. Benjamin is my actually my new favourite Fiyero. I am not seeing the tour again until December, but would be more than happy to see this cast. Ben sounds and looks great. It’s nice to see the choreography done well. His as long as your mine with Amy Ross is AMAZING!

I have previously seen Liam Doyle, Sam Edwards and Bradley Jaden as Fiyero but Ben is my favourite. I am hoping he will be on when I see the tour again in December!

I've discovered that Wicked will be in Edinbuurgh when I'm on holiday there next month so I thought maybe I'd go & see it but the ticket prices rather horrify me. I've never been to the Edinburgh Playhouse but having looked it up I see it setas over 3000. Can anyone who knows the theatre advise if the balcony is bearable or is it such miles from the stage that it'd only really worth going if I fork out c. £50 for cheaper end of the stalls?

I’ve sat in the balcony twice and it’s not that bad. You can’t really make out the facial expressions with the naked eye (binoculars available at seats for £1) but it generally offers a clear view of the stage at a (fairly) decent price. One thing to be wary of in the Playhouse is the queues for the toilets in the interval! There’s only like one set for the whole balcony and they have the most inefficient hand dryers ever.

Dawnstar it's not a guarantee but single seats may be reduced closer to the performance so maybe hold off booking until the week of the show? The previous two venues (Bristol Hippodrome & Liverpool Playhouse) have reduced all single seats (including premium) down in price to between £20 and £35, as Edinburgh is also an ATG venue they may also offer this? Seeing as I highly doubt the show will sell out every night given the capacity the venue has

I'm hoping they reduce single seats because there's a nice little single front row seat available for what I suspect will be Nikki's scheduled show. I'm such a fangirl I'll probably pay for it regardless, but it would be nice if they reduced it for me.
