Considering the amount of productions we once had compared to now they easily have spare lifts that could be brought over? 🤔 I do wonder whether they are all identical though. I would have thought, some of them would be made to fit into smaller theatres etc. I might be wrong but I believe the 1NT is the US was far less ‘portable’ and could only fit into certain theatres

With regard to the 'lifts' and availability of spares from previous tours, do consider that it may not be as simple as getting the one used on the first National Tour out of storage to use again. The mechanics and components were probably on a rental agreement and broken back down to constituent parts post-tour. Its like saying 'why doesn't an upcoming Phantom tour just use the same motors for the chandelier that they used back in the UK run of 1999?'. They won't have kept the motors in storage on the off-chance, its not financially justifiable. Same goes for whatever hydraulics and parts the DG Lift compromises of.

Heard back from the AV box office about the weather affected Bristol show and exchanging tickets today. Must admit I am very surprised with the seat they've given me, far better than I was expecting or even hoping for. Considering they didn't have to offer us anything I'm currently feeling very grateful for the seat they've allocated me

Surely it can’t be a complicated piece of machinery. It only does one thing!

We just sent back my sadly deceased Mother in laws lift, and stairlift ...they could have had one of them.

Surely it can’t be a complicated piece of machinery. It only does one thing! On a serious point to this, I don’t understand how it’s only going a little bit up to start... in the SJB video that shows how it happens it all appears to be computer controlled - so surely the computer says “up” when she clicks herself in and it either does or it doesn’t?!

Sad about your Mother-in-Law, but would anyone else on here have paid as much really good money as I would have, to see Thora Hird going up on a stairlift while warbling "Defying Gravity"? Damn right! She’d have been the Morrible to beat!

If the motor or gear box jams though, its not going to get far. If its hydraulics it might not be getting to the right pressure. Moving big industrial automation pieces, like this Powerfly from STS, is going to have an effect on the performability of the device. Look at the Great Glass Elevator in Charlie, that had one job, didn't leave the theatre and was still prone to problems.

The next time any of you get snippy about other fans I'll remind you that you had a five page discussion about a lift that doesn't.

In our defence, we haven’t compared this lift against any other lifts...although the LiftyMclift 78-23 is a much better lift to represent a witches flight than the one that Wicked currently use. Anyone that thinks differently is just plain wrong...😂😂😂😂😂😂

Could the occurences when the lift decides to not rise or rise halfway be described as lift-riffs???

So the lift has posted a YouTube video complaining about all the negative reactions it's been getting on twitter - including death threats - and how it's now going to take a leave of absence due to illness.

Important update...
The lift has been fixed!
Although in its place the Thank Goodness platform didn't move forward.
The tour that keeps on giving!

I think the fact this musical was first produced in 2003 is starting to show. Technology has advanced an awful lot since then and the fact that 15 years the technology is now starting to fail. (I know this is one tour that is not having a good record due to the fact it has to be moved)
If they could, I would love to see Wicked closed for 6 months and the effects over hauled. Say goodbye to that damned hydraulic lift.

What on earth would we have to talk about for those six months?!

I'm sure they could do some other interesting things too throughout the show.

So, thoughts on tonight's show...
First up, the good:
Helen Woolf - AH-MAAAAZING. Blew me away. The Best Glinda performance I have seen in YEARS. Such a refreshing performance. Beautiful vocals, acting masterclass with comedy timed to perfection. My biggest criticism of recent Glindi has been comedy not landing, but Helen absolutely nailed it. She absolutely shone on that stage tonight, was clearly having a ball, and it was a pleasure to witness her performance.
Sadly not a huge amount of positives I can report on other than Helen...
Amy Ross...hmm. I don't know. I'm very much on the fence with what I thought. Her flying sequence was really really strong, as was the final section of No Good Deed, but otherwise I just felt a bit...meh? She was way too happy in Act I. I don't think Elphaba should be super angry right from the offset, but I wanted to see a bit more frustration from Amy's portrayal - the way she is treated and looked upon, she shouldn't have been anywhere near as happy as she was. That said, I felt she developed the character much better in Act II. Wasn't especially wowed by her vocals, with the exception of the bits I've already mentioned, I thought she was playing it a bit safe. Overall verdict, a very vanilla and unmemorable performance. Sadly, probably the bottom of my Elphaba rankings.
Aaron Sidwell as Fiyero...dear oh dear. I think I've seen more charisma from a plank of wood. Boring. Honestly, I thought I'd stepped back in time and was seeing Ben Freeman again. Vocally adequate, acting just didn't land for me. He absolutely was not a Winkie Prince with a scandalacious reputation. Again, vanilla performance.
Kim Ismay as Morrible...I seem to remember enjoying her performance when I saw her in Bradford, but I was thoroughly disappointed tonight. She just wasn't anywhere near fierce enough. I want a Morrible to put the fear in me and send chills down my spine, but she just didn't. Sounded like she was reading from a script most of the time.
Steven Pinder as Dr Wizardmond...fine, I guess. His Dr Dillamond was fine, but they usually are and don't have a huge amount to do. For his turn as the Wizard, he very much falls into the huge bucket full of Wizards who can't really sing, mumble and bumble through their scenes and don't really leave a lasting memory.
Iddon Jones as Boq...I actually found his performance really annoying. I'm quite picky with my Boqs...there's not many who's performances I could say I actually enjoyed. And I don't know what it was about Iddon but he just really grated on me. Again, rushing through his lines...slow down!!
Emily Shaw as Nessa...I actually really like her acting. But her voice just isn't strong enough. During WWOTE, I look for power in a Nessa. Like Carina, for example. Didn't get that from Emily.
So yeah...not massively wowed by the performances tonight, except for Helen, but it's a great show and really well received by a packed Liverpool audience.
