Double post, but on completely different subjects. Finally saw Amy Ross at the matinee today, she's just amazing as Elphaba. She isn't the type of Elphaba I like, but she is such a credit to the role. She has this heartbreaking optimism about her characterisation of Elphie and it did leave me in tears. Her chemistry with Helen is beautiful. Amy is easily the best acted Elphaba and she has the best No Good Deed I've ever seen. Defying Gravity left me and my mam in tears. Helen is a fabulous Glinda as always and I finally figured out where Aaron fails as Fiyero for me and it's As Long as You're Mine. I'm seeing Amy and the tour cast on Saturday and I'm kicking myself that I didn't wait to buy a ticket! Someone has returned a single front row seat in the stalls and ATG have dropped the price to £25. Instead, I was really hasty with buying a ticket to the nearly sold-out performance so went for the £31 seats in the Balcony. I'll definitely wait until the very last moment for Sunderland then.

Sunderland are notoriously tight on any kind of discounting so I wouldn't bank on it.

Amy has kind of a Donna Vivino vibe about her. I'm definitely a fan and I'm so looking forward to seeing her in the role.
(I'm currently experiencing peak Wicked fandom, so I'm going to try and meet her at the stage door pre-show because she'll never come out between shows)

I met her myself on Wednesday. It will be my first and last time stage dooring before a show, it felt awkward.

I’ll be rushing because my train gets into Edinburgh at 12.05pm then I need to go to the box office and I wanted to pick up some things to give to the cast (a peak fandom thing? Idk. Not a microwave just something simple that will be useful for a 2 show day)

Unless you're a time traveller. I think I might stage door before the show when I next go last week.

I personally don't stage door anymore unless someone gives a really outstanding, life changing performance, which I doubt is going to happen for me at Wicked any time soon. I honestly don't get the need for stage dooring regularly.

So I went today, and I stage doored pre-show. Ended up meeting Amy, Kim, Steven, Nikki, Daniel Greenway, Benjamin Yates (who was on as Fiyero and was excellent), Paul Saunders and Stacey McGuire. It didn't feel awkward at all and they were all so friendly!

I was glad Aaron wasn’t on because I never liked him in EastEnders and haven’t heard many good things about him here. (Edit: no offence to Aaron, I just don’t rate him as an actor) He was as good as Bradley in my opinion, he just needs more time in the role. His signing was good, especially in ALAYM (no shouting over Amy which was good!) Actually, Amy’s mic was really muffled in that song and it was turned off at the start so instead of “kiss me too fiercely” it was just “.....fiercely”

I am seeing the tour for both shows on June 9th, can't wait to see the show in the Playhouse, it looks like such a gorgeous theatre! I am hoping Amy will be on, I only managed to catch her for one show last time and would love to see how much she has improved since then!

What is the Sunderland Empire actually like as a theatre? From photos I've seen, it looks quite nice which is definitely not a word I'd use to describe the town it is situated in.
Was thinking of seeing Wicked there again because I'm Wicked fandom trash.

You pretty much hit the nail on the head, the theatre is lovely but it's the only good thing about the city (honourable mention to my best friend as well). It's a really well designed theatre, plenty of space for people in the bars, plenty of toilets and a beautiful auditorium, that only really has a handful of bad views. My only worry is its really small compared to the two other tour venues I've been to and I like to stress about how they're going to fit the set in. I went to Edinburgh three times to see the show and for the purpose of this I'll say I live in Sunderland. So you should definitely come to Sunderland.

Was thinking of sitting in Row E in the stalls because there’s 2 seats on the left that are free. Says “slightly restricted view” - meaning the balcony box things at the side? Edit: If you’ve been to the Edinburgh Playhouse, anything will seem small. Over 3000 seats and a huge proscenium that makes even the largest set look tiny.

They don't struggle to fit the set in. They played Sunderland on the last tour.

Booked for Sunderland on the first Saturday afternoon show. Stalls F33. Apparently a slightly restricted view, I’m guessing due to the boxes at the side of the stage.

Not even the boxes, it's just a side view because its outside the limits of rge stage (if you get me, you're not directly infront of the stage) however I've sat in F31 and the G32 which are seat surrounding yours for other shows and been perfectly satisfied with the view. For Wicked in that seat, I'm imagining you'll miss absolutely none of the show and you'll be able to see faces perfectly. I'm going on the first Friday, which we've deduced may be press night which is exciting.

I checked SeatPlan and there is no review of my specific seat but there is of the one behind, and it only looks like I'll miss the staircase at the end of Witch Hunters / start of For Good.

If it's anything like when I saw the show last week, (30th May evening) the staircase at the beginning of For Good may not appear and Helen will just run on from the left of the stage.

I'm hoping it will actually be Amy. As much as I love Nikki and it would be great to see a new Elphaba (for me), I would prefer to see Amy again. The reason I'm saying that is, if Friday is the press night like sophizoey said, Amy may take the Saturday off (day after) like she has done at other venues.

The show was apparently stopped mid-way through act 1 tonight. Anyone know what happened?

An audience member was taken ill and had to be helped out from the middle of a row. A similar thing happened the first time I saw Wicked (Palace Theatre Manchester September 2013). There was a commotion in the dress circle during the railway station scene. After a few moments the performance was stopped, the actors stopped speaking and calmly left the stage. The curtain came down and there was an announcement that there would be a short break. Lots of people took advantage of this to nip to the loo! After about 10 minutes there was an announcement that the performance would be restarting, queue a mad dash of people returning from their loo break. The railway station scene was restarted from the beginning and the performance continued without a hitch. At the time I had no idea what had gone on, but some time later I read on a forum that someone had had a panic attack (probably due to the cramped legroom and the heat in the circle)!
