The BF said he only wants me to take him to things that are controversial and shocking. I saw the original production of this like when I was 14 so suggested this. He said it sounded cheesey. I told him what happens at the end. He desperate to go!

Booked. Played safe and went for the back row dress circle. Don't fancy a bench in the stalls. Is the likelihood of the stalls being benches high? Or just a guess?

Just double checked, as the warning they had on their site has vanished. They confirm they are backless, padded benches. That's the theatre directly presumably? Is that all stalls or just those onstage? Your help appreciated as always!

Yes, the actual box office. The stage is being extended out over the stalls, with benches placed both on the original stage and in the extended part over the usual seats. Very helpful, many thanks

Saw this on Saturday. Wow...er...Still no idea what to make of it. If anyone who saw it in the original run sees this production, I'm fascinated to hear about the differences. Also, the stalls are tiered seating - padded benches with backs

Also, the stalls are tiered seating - padded benches with backs So much for telling the box office that! Appreciate the update. Running time? The backs aren't that comfortable really, but they are there. Running time was about 75 minutes, but that was only the 2nd night. Official running time still not on the site.

At least they are there . 1 hour 15? That works for me, can get on with some shopping, if not, well... not in the Hammersmith area, I'd think... anyway... after. Thanks wiggymess. You're welcome. When are you seeing it, and did you see the original production?

So, just back from it. I didn't know anything about the play a part from the fact that it is an "in-yer-face" thing. I enjoyed, maybe it's a bit dated, maybe it's a bit patronizing, but I liked it. The first part was a camp hot mess, the second was gutting and disturbing. I liked the actors, Sophie Wu was the stand-out, but they all delivered solid performances. Wasn't too keen on David Moorst, but probably it's because his character is extraordinary annoying... and he reads too old for the part imo.
I had to see it for uni, I'm glad I saw it, I enjoyed it but wasn't shocked by it. Then I read an introduction by the author who said that shocking has never been his intention, so he nailed it.
And I think I saw you Ryan!

I LOVED this The staging and acting ensure the flaws and weaknesses in the text are covered well Excellent acting and concepts Well worth seeing Entertaining disturbing and funny all in equal doses The characters are so bizarre and well portrayed

No, didn't see the original. Going next week. Incidentally, the box office are giving a running time of 1 hour 40 minutes. First the seats, now the time. Mad, isn't it! Got my timings all muddled. Remembered we came out at around 15/20 past 9 and had it down as starting at 8 for some reason :/ apologies. To be fair, it flew by. Didn't seem like 1hr 40!

And I think I saw you Ryan! Oh, I hope I looked my best! Well. this zips by really. Very funny for the most part, takes a teeny bit of a turn in the latter stages. Great cast, very committed bunch and all destined for bigger things I'd say. Didn't like the pants though. Or the seats. Very uncomfortable. One of my buttocks is only just coming back to life.

Reviews out for this. Seem to be 3* across the board pretty much.

Enjoyed this a lot. Sat in the on stage stalls seats which are padded benches with a decent padded back, looked a lot more comfortable than the main stalls seats Audience interaction alert: avoid the front row of stalls (on stage and normal) and the aisles of both if you don't want to be interacted with eg being taken on stage for a slow dance, or being invited uo to read part of the script out (the latter may have been a plant Also have some loose change with you, the cast will try and sell you stuff

Goodness. Was there anyone on this board not there tonight???
I was neither shocked (not that this was Ravenhill's stated intention) nor very disturbed.
The staging was good and the cast was enthusiastic and gave their all. But the play is an extremely blunt and rather flabby instrument. It seems to have one point and it might get this through more effectively with more subtlety, less repetition and more sympathetic characterisation.
Inventive theatre and theatricality but textually speaking clumsy and obvious.

Go an see this.
But if you are prudish or easily offended or you like your theatre subtle then you best skip this and go and see Lear instead.
I didn't know whether to love this (which I kind of did) or hate this (which I kind of did), but if you love your theatre to be uncomfortable, thought provoking and challenging which I definitely do, then get yourself to Hammersmith for a play that is all about abstract and metaphysics, but certainly isn't definitive.
Superbly designed by a first rate creative team. Sometimes the stage is a big obstruction that hinders great acting, so get rid of it, which provided the necessary space for some top draw acting. Who really needs the stalls? The audience gets too comfortable and fall asleep, so get rid of it. Who needs an interval, get rid of it, as the audience tends to think!! Who really needs an audience, they only ask differcult questions? Who really needs money and does it really have any value?
I could imagine with this that Jack Tinkler would be spinning in his grave at this, however the great Sarah Kane would be grinning like a proverbial Cheshire in hers, her legacy lives on.

My friend absolutely loathed this from start to finish, he thought it had not a single enjoyable moment and not a single thing to say. I sort of liked it though. It's quite a bizarre show and not very subtle but the disgustingly garish high energy in your face concept was weirdly enjoyable.
