The penny has finally dropped. I thought you looked familiar... Ahaha, I've heard that a few times actually.  Amazed by it's success at the golden globes! It's certainly hyped up now. Hoping to catch it this weekend. I've not seen a non sci fi film in the cinema in ages this should make a nice change! |

Quite how it won over Kenneth Lonergan's excellent Manchester by the Sea mystifies me. I wasn't impressed by the songs, the singing or the dancing either. It did look lovely though |

I've always been slightly confused by this movie, is it a full musical or just a movie with a few songs ? The trailers don't make it out to be a musical but it's always classed as that in articles. I plan to see it at the weekend regardless!

I saw it last nigt (what a rarity-I never get to the cinema these days sadly) and I think I must have been too hyped by the Globes.
It was sweet and charming and beautifully shot, but it didnt punch me in the gut as much I expected..
Im a real cryer ( I shed a tear at the Jackie preview that played before the film lol) and I'm a sucker for "dreamer" type stories, but the resolution didnt feel desrved in the end somehow...
Still a very sweet film- and very exciting to see an original musical on film.

My worry is that take away the chemistry of the performers and the direction and what have you got? The strenghts are not in the plot or the songs (or the singing and dancing for that matter). I was happy to suspend my critical faculties and just enjoy. I am a little worried that on the small screen it may not impress as I still hope it will charm me for years to come. Funny because in 'real life' I am extremely sensitive to spotting which charmers have no talent to back it up. It's a musical. |

The vocals were unedited as far as I can tell. I thought they did fine. Ryan's voice really suited 'City of Stars', the main theme. Emma's 'Audition' was sung and filmed live and she did a good job with that too. The songs in Beauty and the Beast are more demanding and require stronger vocals. |

Emma Stone has already performed in Cabaret on Broadway, why would we be in the slightest bit worried/curious compared with Emma Watson who hasn't sung anything for an audience since a rousing burst of "Hogwarts Hogwarts Hoggy-warty-Hogwarts" in one of the earlier Harry Potter films?

I think its acknowledged that since Marlon Brando was cast as Nathan Detroit, in Hollywoodland it's more important we like the singer than love the voice. |

Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone are two of the most charismatic movie actors around for my money. Emma Stone in particular has that Julia Roberts star quality about her. |

I have a bit of a controversial opinion about this film actually which is that whilst I thought Emma Stone did a good job, Ryan Gosling managed to impress me more with a lot less to work with.

So I caught a preview of this on Tuesday night. I really like it.
Great chemistry between the two leads. Strong colours.
Some subtle and clever choreography and great sining from the leads.
Parts make you happy whilst other parts make you sad.
It certainly makes you leave on a high.
Is Ryan Gosling really playing the piano? Cause if he ain't, it's certainly well edited to make it look like he is.
Some lovely images as well.
Emma Stone has been cast in the upcoming Cruella film and overtime there was close up of her face I ken trying to see this well defined cheekbones of that tall thin woman wanting dalmation pelts.

Figured I'd start a thread to see what people think of La La Land, I know it's only been released today but I've seen it twice now and simply adore it! I love all the throwbacks and nods to old cinema. The score to die for, it's replaced Moana as my go to driving music. Definitely being added to my favourite films list.

Obviously this was enjoyable but think it's a little cheeky calling it a musical what with only 1 song in the last 70mins and actually only about 3/4 actual separate songs........a tad dissapointed

Got back from seeing this tonight and it was a great new movie musical. I really enjoyed it and think Emma an Ryan were both wonderful , their voices were very nic. The music was really good as well, this has an amazing score which is not suprising. The dancing in it was all great and the music and dance felt very natural. The style of it all was beautiful, it was very picturesque. For me it also really did feel like a love letter to classic musicals and I noticed a few Easter eggs like toward the end Emma is holding multi coloured balloons in an Audrey Hepburn style which was an homage to funny face a think and a few other to Fred and ginger. Would like to know other things you saw.
Me and my mum really enjoys doing it and would happily see it again . Let's hope it wins lots of oscars.
