Hmm, I shall almost certainly give this a miss as it has the misfortune to hit Cardiff in the same week as both the latest show from Mr and Mrs Clark and Dancing Bear, Dancing Bear, and I've also already booked to see Skylight by your favourite playwright in the same week.

I see Lyn Gardner gave it 3* too, rare we are in agreement. Re Skylight, I've never seen any of his original plays, just his adaptations of other's work. Well, I suppose Pravda might count as he co-wrote it - hated that.

Saw this last week with my kids and they absolutely loved it! Yes, I agree it's not in Matilda's league, but definitely one of the best touring children's books adaptations we've seen. Thought that overall it was well done, some of the shows we've seen have required A LOT of padding to eek the story out over an hour or so. The music was good and story didn't seem to drag at all.
And a quick comment about the patient, helpful front of house staff at the Lyric Hammersmith, dealing with all the many issues a lot of parents seemed to have. Then when my daughter lost her bag after the show, they were so kind to her and discovered it had been handed in within a matter of seconds.

Just seen this in a full house in halfterm week. Everyone around me in the auditorium and the foyers seemed to enjoy it. It's very wordy but all audible tonight, so completely comprehensible. I guess that the kids are already very familiar with the story, and none of them seemed to have any problems following it. Mr Fox did engage with the audience but of course he's a flawed character, redeemed by the action of the play, so it's right that he holds himself aloof.
I didn't appreciate the musical subtleties because I'm not sufficiently musical.

Saw this today. It was nice but was a bit disappointed. It had a lot of potential to be great but it needed about 3 times the number of songs it had.

Returning to London for a month long run this Summer. I.e., the tour has been extended by a return visit to co-producing theatre Lyric Hammersmith.
