I just hope Phil Jupitus is not involved, already known to Mel Brooks from The Producers Tour of course.
Ross will be a huge miss, he really is wonderful in this.

Christopher Fitzgerald originated the role on Broadway and he'd totally get me back to the show faster than I already plan too haha. He has been in Waitress since the beginning of its run on Broadway and considering he is not announced to leave, I'd be surprised he would come over so fast? |

The thing that always made me shocked about Friends was when youtube videos appeared of scenes with the laugh track muted.....to prove that actually it wasn't that funny.......and it really wasn't. It was quite exposing when viewed like that. Adding laughter to things does make lines seem funnier than they actually are.
But i still do enjoy friends anyway, it's harmless fun.
Anyway....back to YF......yes they sing and dace and act very well. BRAVO! *other theatre related chater*

I have the boxset, it will forever be one of my favourites.  Back to Young Frankenstein, it'll be a shame to lose Ross, but at the same time he is just one of five fabulous leads and I am sure whomever they get to replace, will fit in just fine. Am glad to see that other than Ross, it appears the three ladies and Hadley are in it for the long haul so thats nice to see. Hopefully this one will have along and fulfilling run.  |

Saw this last night and agree that the first half was very average - not terrible, but just not that funny either , and the songs were pretty forgettable. Second half was a lot better, the scenes with the hermit, and Putting On The Ritz in particular stood out (although I thought the dance routines in POTR could have benefited with being put on a much larger stage). I enjoyed it, but wouldn't be in a rush to see it again (unless there was to be some stellar recasting in the future).

Thinking back about my review above, and after seeing Ross Noble on Sunday Brunch this morning and thinking back to last weeks show, I think maybe I was a bit harsh with my comments below, I did really enjoy it. More than Hamilton (just saying, no need to start a riot).

Saw this last week and thought it was ok, not terrible, but nothing to write home about. The songs were unmemorable, but overall the show is mildly entertaining. The movie is much better and funnier imho

Well. I just loved this. Loved, loved, loved, loved, loved it.
I'd always liked the score anyway so that didn't disappoint but oh, the UK cast are simply glorious. Studly Fraser is strangely hot-to-trot in his curls and moustache and that voice is like being covered in melted Galaxy chocolate* and his partnership with Ross Noble is a delight. The three ladies are also magnificent, Dianne Pilkington does almost steal the entire thing but Summer Strallen is a joy and Lesley Joseph a fabulously game old dame (she even got a bit of entrance applause when I saw it). I'd happily see all five actors Olivier nominated and if there was a three-way tie between Dianne, Summer and Lesley I'd be a very happy bunny indeed. At times the show does seem to be straining at the seams as you get the impression it's a bigger show squeezed into a smaller theatre but all in all it's done brilliantly. If you love the film, all the great gags are still there and I do love me that Mel Brooks style of vaudeville comedy.
Oh and Josh Wilmott is also fabulous as the reluctant villager who knows exactly what his village needs to really swing.

Knowing you personally... entrance applause lead on by you. 😉😉 Maybe they could do a "The Girls" or an "Our Ladies" and get jointly nominated? Seeing as that situation last year was overall ridiculous so anything could happen (though the Ladies kinda made sense, the Girls were easily two leads and the rest being carried along). |
