ok no Phantom for me until CC, curious if there will be a new Phantom then, or Ben Lewis back? hope for a new Christine plus new alternate too and a new Raoul O:)

The full article on the Phantom website says Tim Howar will return to the role in May 2019 (can’t remember exact date) after his Mike & The Mechanics Tour has finished.

Rather selfishly,I'd like to see Ben Lewis return as I didn't get chance during his previous stint, probably not likely although I do wonder what he'll do post-Company. |

Anyone else worried by this? Why do we need a contemporary approach to such a classic role? It's also weird and semi-gaslighty given how different — and more traditionally musical theatre — Tim sounded when he was Marius. That may not be his sound NOW, but it's not a sound that should be unfamiliar to either one of them. I've just been scrolling back through this thread after watching Tim last night. I enjoyed him in Chess and thought it would be interesting to see what he brought to Phantom. And what he brought was a decent enough sing of the Phantom..but nothing that stood out to me as noticeably different. Which, as said above, is fine,but why suggest it's going to be otherwise? I'm no expert but it seemed a bit staccato to me in places, like he was having to work hard to place each note. I thought the whole show was better second half- Madame Giry was swapped at the interval so maybe there was drama backstage! Edit: I'd realised that Meg was a cover, but have just worked out that Raoul and Carlotta were as well, so taking out Mme G as well must have made for a fun night! |

I need to get tickets for this for a weekend performance at the end of March (special occasion).
I'm going to have to pay full whack, aren't I?!
The last time I saw Phantom back in the 00's, it's prices were on a par with general ticket prices, even for top seats before the "best seats go stratospheric" trend...

Went to see this on Friday in the hope of seeing David Thaxton but he was off, so we had Scott Davies (whose performance as I've always enjoyed - it's nice to have an old-school Phantom with an operatic voice). The performance for me felt a bit flat; there was little energy in the auditorium either amongst the audience or the actors, which was a pity. Amy Manford has a beautiful timbre that's just right for Christine; unfortunately, though, she was often flat. Is Jeremy Taylor injured? He didn't jump into lake in Act 2.

Saw on Thursday for the first. Been waiting for an actor who I want to see be announced as Phantom, and unfortunately David Thaxton was off. Very disappointed with Scott Davies, found his performance adequate at best and rolling my eyes at his performance many times. That said he was the only weak link in the cast. Very impressed with Kelly and Jeremy as Raoul, and I thought Kimberley as Carlotta was the standout performance.
I can see why some say this production is dated, I think the overall design of it is good (although the chandelier effect is too robotic for my liking and doesn’t fall ‘naturally’). It just needs some love and care to make a few the set pieces look as visually appealing as I assume they once were.

Obviously can’t compare as I’ve only hear online audios, but the current (principle) cast I thought was very impressive and perfectly good value for the GILT offers. Hopefully David Thaxton comes back to do a longer run. |

Saw David Thaxton as the Phantom last month on Christmas Eve and enjoyed his performance. Whilst he doesn't exactly bring anything new to the role acting-wise, he's one of the best I've seen vocally! Finally got to see Amy Manford as Christine and thought that her singing was beautiful, although she played the character a little too childlike for my tastes. It was my third time seeing Jeremy as Raoul, and I still don't like his portrayal - there's not much personality there and in the odd moments there are, it's quite unpleasant. I do hope that we'll get a full run from David at some point as I'd like to see how he'd develop in the role.
I think perhaps my favourite part of that show were the bows because they were all decked out in Christmassy accessories, which was absolutely adorable!

At the show tonight. Scott is on as phantom. Seen him a few times and I just think he is now too old to play the role in my opinion. Kelly has improved in the acting department but doesn’t sound loud enough at times. She also appears out of breath and rushing at times. Jeremy is the dullest raoul I’ve ever seen. He’s even worse than last time I saw him. Talk about going through the motions with no personality and a pretty basic voice! Liking the guy playing piangi and Katy hanna is a good Carlotta. Shame some of the cast are letting the material down.

Can only agree Scott Davies is adequate at best. He sounds like a performer who’s played his role for too long. He shows moments of creepiness and anguish at times but his singing goes all over the place
Very impressed by Jeremy Jordan. Such a strong voice and he and Kelly Mathieson were touching in All I ask of you

I saw this last week and agree Jeremy is the weakest Raoul I’ve ever seen. He’s not even that good a singer! The show was in great shape though.
