With Martin Ball back in the show as Firmin, this makes him one of the very few who will have played both managers principally!

Joanna Ampil sings ‘Think of Me’ (and ‘All I Ask of You’) on her 2007 album. It’s on Spotify. I think she’ll make a great Carlotta.

Dean Chisnall has one of my favourite voices on the West End, very excited for this. Agreed.

Didn’t rate him him in the Les Mis tour. Sorry. And he was one of my favs JVJs…and I’ve probably seen 20 at this point in London and on Broadway.

It was an easy one to predict though wasn’t it? It’s a whole lifetime circuit being a Cam mack bari-tenor.

Must confess I get so mixed up between the revolving door of Valjeans to Phantom and back again, had you asked me if Dean had done it before I'd have said yes.
I absolutely love Joanna Ampil but doesn't Carlotta need to be an opera singer? Isn't the range even higher than soprano or is that not a thing? I guess Carlotta is mic'd as per MT usual and am sure she can do it as she's a legend!

I doubt they'd put in Joanna Ampil if they couldn't pull off the operatic-like voice.
Dean Chisnall is absolutely INSANE so I have no doubt he'd be batting home run after home run as the Phantom. Must be nice after having to deal with the monster of a unhealthy singing role that Valjean is! (seriously, you try singing screaming bari-tenor high Bb4's every night...)

Joanna has said she first auditioned for the show two decades ago, so I’m assuming for Christine. Great she’s got it now.
I thought Dean Chisnall was an excellent Valjean in London.
I haven’t kept on top of it, but Jon Robyns hasn’t been in the role for long, has he? Anyone know if he’s leaving for another project?

Edit: originally said two years, but he's only been in it for a year surprisingly!

Would be very interested in a list of people who have played Phantom after playing Valjean? (Or vice versa)
I think the list of who HASN'T may be smaller!

Yes, time flies. I just had to check as I couldn’t quite believe it, and you’re right - he started in April 2023.

It's a very common pipeline, most likely because if someone can play Valjean every night they can defintely play the Phantom in terms of vocal range (an Ab4 every night is a preferable job compared to a C5 every night!) Just spent about 5 minutes going through Valjeans I knew and all of them have gone on to play the Phantom somewhere.
It's a shame though Jon Robyns is going so quickly; his Phantom was incredible. Seen him twice now.

Helen Hobson is going to play Mdm Giry. That's a name i haven't heard in a while. I first saw her in Cliff Richard's Heathcliffe and then she was a fantastic Rose in Aspects.
This cast might actually make me go and see the show again.

So a Phantom of the Opera rollercoaster using VR has opened at a themepark in Germany... So random: I got back from Europa Park yesterday and The Phantom rollercoaster was fantastic! Despite having to pay an extra 7euros, i went on it twice.
When you first put on the VR headset, you are in the Opera House, and sat in Box 5, but it's not at the side of the stage. You're watching the opera and then it feels like the room is moving and you're taken down to the underground lake of the opera house. That will teach you for not leaving box 5 empty!
You can look around and see different things you recognise from the show - if you don't know the show well, most of it will pass you by. Not having a huge amount of experience with VR, the visuals were kind of blocky, but i still enjoyed the details in it.
The story is you're trying to get out of the room you're in and then when the door is opened, you take your place on the coaster. Then things kinda change. You go over the lake, the candleabras from the show rise up and you swerve to miss them. and then you are in the opera house again. As you are going up the lift hill on the coaster - which goes in a spiral up, the headset shows you rising up in the auditorium, and there are these strange almost cartoon graphics of Raoul and Christine, doing the mirror scene, and the mirror opening and Christine going through. I couldn't help myself and said 'Christine! Angel!' Now you are getting higher and swirling around the chandalier and they are doing the Poor Fool he makes me laugh.... then when the chandalier comes crashing down, that when you start the descent on the coaster. You are then seen flying around the theatre as the people trying to escape a big fire, they hunt the phantom, Christine and Raoul are seen on a roof singing and at the end of the ride, you see the Phantom on his throne and he disappears. It was all very well done and they had alot of details from the show in it. The audio and everything synched really well.
Yes it was odd how the 'realistic' graphics were interspersed with cartoon style, but i didn't really care. It was so unique and different. You must definitely do it if you're in the park, if you can find it. It's tucked away in back of the French zone, opposite the Puma store. No, i have no idea why there was a Puma superstore in the park either.

So was good to see her pop up again in Come From Away a few years ago.

It's giving 'if the phantom was batman' for the first part of the trailer. I still don't get how a rollacoaster can play into the phantom story. But I'm intrigued and would ride it Ride footage here

The talking portait (giving off big Harry Potter vibes) is Carlotta, introducing her self, some back story about the theatre, Christine and the Phantom, and she also tell you about the VR and how it works. There are English subtitles on the screen when it plays.
The coaster is actually used for 2 different rides. The Moulin Rouge/Can Can coaster and the Phantom VR. they use the same track abd you can occasionally hear the Can Can playing when you get on the ride.
Now I want to see other shows as VR coasters.

i’m actually in the airport on my way home from Europa Park now & i thoroughly enjoyed the Phantom VR coaster - it’s certainly better than the same coaster (Can Can) minus the VR - my main gripe is that there was no coaster specific merch! i’m not the biggest ALW fan, but i love theme parks & i love musicals so i couldn’t resist this & i thought a Phantom Coaster T Shirt or Cap would have been extremely camp!

Even though I usually avoid VR’s in rollercoasters, this one sure sounds intriguing. Love rollercoasters and musicals, never thought I would see both together! The Aerosmith rollercoaster at Disneyland Paris was probably my favourite ride of both parks. Not musical inspired, but the music really added some punch to the experience. Done right, this could be amazing
