Whilst it is strictly broadway related I think there's merit in posting this here, as we didn't get much of an insight "from within" of the deconstruction of Phantom in London. Fascinating albums on this guys Instagram: www.instagram.com/kbroomell/

Thank you for sharing, really interesting and so very sad seeing the chandelier lowered and taken out to the lorry. Feels very timely that I went back and saw the show in London last weekend. We know what we need to do to make sure it stays open here!

If I may ask jgblunners Do you consider yourself a Phan? How often do you see the show? I've been 3 times. 1st was to see Martin Smith in it, up to Manchester with the Manager of Her Majesty's to see the 1st tour and again in London when a friend was in it briefly. How do you know its a mediocre productio when you havent seen it yet? Do you remember much about Martin Smith’s performance in the role? I’m the webmaster of the memorial website for him. I’ve been searching for a tape of his phantom for years and years now but it would appear such a thing just doesn’t exist anymore. Curious what you may remember

{Spoiler - click to view} The Phantom's disappearing trick at the end of the show went wrong at yesterday's matinee. James Gant sat down in the chair and threw the cape over himself, but I could see that he was having trouble getting the cape to attach to the back of the chair so he could disappear. He ended up staying there and passing Meg the mask from under the cape. It was an interesting flub to see as I've heard various actors talk about that particular trick going wrong but never actually witnessed it.

Seems another round of illness is doing its round in the company.
This evening's performance will borrow Adam Robert Lewis from Les Mis (currently playing Courfreyrac) to play Phantom - a role he understudied 4 years ago.

You could tell there were some nerves but wow Adam was vocally as amazing as I last saw him in 2019- his full voice is classic, big, imposing, sonorous; he also incorporated a hushed/half voice that was equally beguiling that I've not heard him do during his last run- he's going to sound even more stunning once he's refined the transition between those voices! We got ALL of the cape acting in the First Lair, and because I'd seen him on the angel I recognised very similar mannerisms when he was on the Pegasus... the way he hugged the veil at the end was an inspired move- one of my favourite details from before- hope he gets a few more shows before the inevitable Les Mis cover chaos necessitates his return lol

memorise all their lines immaculately in such short notice I believe he has been on standby since December and had a proper run technical/dress run through so not just thrown on at short notice with no rehearsal!

This is super interesting! I assume this more formalised standby situation is because of the production changes since he was last on? Do you know if it’s the case for other roles/alumni for pre or post covid? It’s almost that time again, cast change in July (confirmed by a few people who are leaving, including Anouk and I believe several Raouls) - are there any rumours floating around yet?

Afaik not heard of anyone else from the old production learning the new production to standby. are there any rumours floating around yet? I believe Jon is staying, but heard the names Richard Carson and Adam Rhys Charles floating around as Raoul/Raoul understudy. Not sure how legitimate those are though.

Does anyone know if Jon has posted any official holiday dates anywhere (just had a quick look in Insta but couldn't see anything)?
In other news, it's great to see this selling so much better now. It took a really long time for it to pick up post Covid but it seems to be doing really well now.
I hope the Richard Carson rumour is true. He has a gorgeous voice and was fantastic covering Chris in Miss Saigon.

Funnily, I just noticed them about an hour ago on his twitter. June 9 & 10, June 22-28 and July 29 are his current planned days off.
Edit - I should add, James Gant has said he'll be on for the rest of this week due to Jon being sick.

Ah this makes so much sense! Nonetheless still impressive - I can only imagine the fear of forgetting even just one line

Hi Any idea on the up coming cast change as in who is going/staying? Bumping this - it feels quite late to still not have an announcement, as presumably rehearsals started today? i’m mostly interested in whether or not Holly’s leaving, as I’d be keen to catch her last show if so… Definitely confirmed as leaving via insta: Matt Blaker, Anouk van Laake, Connor Carson, Emma Harris, Lizzie Wofford (left on Saturday to join the cast of Oklahoma!)

Thank you - not that seeing a cast change show is ever a chore, of course, but that's the push I needed.

So Paige is being promoted? I heard both Charlotte Kennedy and Samantha Thomas name being thrown into the mix for Christine & Ellis Kirk for Raoul (Which makes sense as he just left heathers)

Loved her in the My Fair Lady tour. Hope this is true!

I'll be sorry to see Holly go. Only got to see her the once but thought she was excellent. After I saw Charlotte in MFL I thought she'd make a lovely Christine so will definitely be back to see her if that ends up being the case.
