Saw this again fairly recently with Oliver Ormson as Elder Price. Probably the one of the best Prices I've seen in London. The show is still incredibly fresh Yeah I've heard he's really good! On a personal note, I felt his Price connected better with a British audience than the other two Prices I've seen (Billy Tighe and Nic Rouleau) . I felt the same seeing David O'Reilly as Cunningham. I think it's a shame that the producers haven't cast a UK actor as either one of the leads yet |

He was my one and only Elder Price, so I only have him to go on. His level of enthusiasm & the energy surrounding him was something to behold! His accent was spot on and his voice a thing of wonder...almost too big for such a compact theatre. Catch him if you can.

As he was the 10th Elder Price I've seen, you have to hit a pretty high mark to make an impression on me. (Now, if only they'd do something about Brian Sears....) |

Anyone have any intel on the Melbourne cast, which is probably set for rehearsals in December? It seems rather late for an Aussie cast to be announced and I've only heard rumors. (And there isn't an Australian equivalent to this board, is there?)

Isn't Brian Sears getting any better? Haven't seen the show since before the cast change and I was hoping that he maybe is improving in the meantime... I first saw him with Nic in Sept 2015, then with Oliver in May of this year. If anything, I disliked him more than I had earlier. He is far and away my least favorite Cunningham (out of the 9 I've seen). I find it hard to feel like Elder Price is being a dick when he's clearly been stuck with a gibbering idiot as a mission companion. Fortunately, Sears does dial it down a bit in the 2nd Act. Truth be told, I didn't particularly care for Ben Platt's somewhat similar Cunningham on Broadway, either. After seeing Sears the first time, I thought that maybe I just didn't like a "weird white guy" Cunningham, as opposed to a "fat white guy". (For those who don't know, they change the lyric in "Man Up" from "fat" to "weird" depending on the type of Cunningham.) I thought that maybe the "weird" Cunninghams were directed to amp up their needy geekiness to super-annoying levels, in order to accentuate their difference to Price and the other Elders (whereas a "fat" Cunningham already had his physical form working against him in that regard, so he could be nerdy without having to be quite so obnoxious about it). But then I caught A.J. Holmes on tour in the U.S. He's another "weird" Cunningham, but he nailed the part without making the character a cartoon or turning the audience off in the process. How the West End went from him to Sears is puzzling. I see that David O'Reilly is still a Cunningham stand-by. I saw him early on (with both Gavin & Ashley) and thought he was very good. I certainly expect he's gotten better over time. |

Vocally I'd say Brian Sears is incredibly strong, in fact probably one of the strongest there is but his portrayal is a little odd. I've seen the show 5 times, 3 of which have seen David O'Reilly as Cunningham and he is fantastic. He has the perfect voice for the part and nails the acting. He's been with the company since day one and I feel it's a real shame he hasn't been promoted to lead |

Not from BOM but I love this video of him: I have to agree with you that his Man Up is fantastic, and the best I've seen live and heard from from recordings. I think the role is easier to play when you physically stick out as a "Cunningham" than when you don't and therefore have to go more over the top on the behaviour. I loved both David and Brian's Cunningham but for different reasons. I think David fits the role incredibly well but Brian's vocals are insanely good. I think some people's comments of wanting to leave at the interval are a little off as it really is not that bad. |

Vocally Brian Sears is fantastic. Said that, to me, in my personal opinion, his portrait of Cunningham is too tacky. I can barely stand him. For how it's written you don't have to go into a very strong cartoonish acting method.
AJ Holmes is the best Cunningham I've ever seen, but enjoyed Jared Gertner too.
And David O'Reilly definitely deserves to be the principal. How is it even possible that he is still the cover after all those years? He is so funny and vocally strong.
Anyway, does anybody have seen the new McKinley?

His McKinley was hilarious and also heartbreaking, and his Cunningham was vulnerable and adorable. But I haven't seen him as Cunningham since about the first few weeks he'd been in London, and the reports since then haven't exactly been encouraging.  (Not just from here but also taking into account a friend I trust who's who's also seen him as McKinley and Cunningham, the latter both here and in London.) |

I saw the new McKinley on his second show, and he really was very good. My friends didn't believe me when I said he'd literally just started and they couldn't see how anyone could possibly be any better, so I think it's the classic case of for those who haven't seen the show before, he's incredible...for those who have, he's excellent but nobody can top Stephen Ashfield.
With regards to Cunningham, I really like Brian Sears. His portrayal is so hyper and so OTT that I really can understand why some people would find it too much, but I thought it worked. I would love to see David O'Reilly as I've heard such good things about him.

No rumours that I've heard. They do dribble out the booking periods and keep them very short, but that'a all. Thanks for clearing that up. I notice when browsing for tickets, that they book up to a point. Thought then that would be when it ends. Would like to see this at some point. |

They only ever extend for a few months to keep ticket demand (and thus prices) high. I doubt it'll close in the next few years.

Though beginning of the year/February-ish is usual, I think. As for cast, no idea but I believe they weren't auditioning for Cunningham. Whether that means Brian Sears is staying on (which would make your day, Michael, I'm sure!!!) or whether they're bringing over another US performer, I'm not sure. Might be neither of those! |
