I can't help but wonder if they will mic the actors on Broadway. The acting is all so understated, especially Scott. Many of his soliloquies were very quiet. It was fine I never the Almeida, but I wonder if it will carry in the Pinter without amplification.

I think I just wanted lots of sexy people in it so came up with a cast I wanted, not what I deserved. Though Mateo Oxley has a supporting role and he's the sexiest of them all. Well, he's understudying Prior, and the piece was traditionally written for a smaller ensemble than the NT have thrown at it with a lot of doubling, so I don't know if you should count on him necessarily having a lot to do. But hey, if you're going at a similar time to when I'm going and you want to collaborate on a plan to harmlessly take Garfield out of action for a couple of days, just let me know.  Hey I'm not encouraging it...but neither am I actively discouraging it.

To get this back on topic I really liked Scott saying that reasonably priced tickets were crucial for him to transfer and it is great Almeida have taken their reasonable ticket policy to the west end.

They changed the wording since this morning - it did say "register here for presale" rather than "sign up for time out account"

Back row stalls at the Almeida meant I was straining my ears at times to hear what the cast were saying. |

Great, just got the mail from Sonia too. I have zero memory of ever signing up to her mailing list but she does seem keen on sending me priority booking links!
Suspect this will be a better way of getting tickets than Time Out as you normally can't choose seats with Time Out.

Good news regarding the transfer! I am missing this at the Almeida, so will definitely be booking for the West End. This was my A Level English play, but I've never actually seen a production!
Do we know yet if Scott will be doing all dates of the run, or if there are any scheduled holidays etc?

It would be very unusual to have scheduled absences for a short run of a play (does happen - eg Hayley Atwell in The Pride), I'd assume Scott will be doing all dates barring illness. Got another mail from my close personal friend Sonia today which included - "Sonia Friedman Production subscribers will get access to priority tickets from 12pm on Sunday 2 April ahead of the general public on Thursday 6 April. " Sonia's certainly come a long way since her days as the Pound Shop Kylie Minogue! |

Well this was fun! Thanks to Polly1 for ticket behind the pillar and I thought this was great. Not a big fan of Andrew Scott usually (find him a bit OTT) but here I thought him superb! I enjoyed the staging and video stuff and involvement of the actual theatre and I think I must just like Icke's productions! Music had me a bit tearful at the end....and this is Hamlet we are talking about....I am neve tearful for Hamlet! So glad I saw it!  Thank heavens for theatre forum people with tickets! |

Oh and the seats! The seats! No more awkward sharing and they are comfy! Is it wrong that in quiet moments of the play I just sort of sat and delighted in the comfort of it all?!

I think I spotted Latecomer and Polly in the foyer, but I was navigating the heard of school kids to find my friend at the time (but saw a theatrboard badge in the wild for the first time) Longer thoughts tomorrow when I'm not on a train home but I loved this overall.and particularly thought Scott was great. Probably a marker of a slightly fragile emotional state but I found this quite emotinnallohard going in the first act- there was something quite raw about Hamlet's grief that really resonated with me. And I actually got very emotional at the ending and cried a bit. But that may well be an "it me not the play" moment. Also Mr Scott has lovely arms. And is generally a handsome fella. Which isn't I appreciate a very intellectual observation, but it is something I'll remember |

I thought Scott was a brilliant depiction of a depressed person....his misery was so raw and he could barely function....it made the "to be or not to be" speech very logical. I was a bit worried at the start of the play as a couple of people did the "inapproprite laugh" thing that so often follows Scott around but luckily they calmed down and didn't ruin things! I can also report that the badges go through a full wash cycle with no noticeable damage!!! |

Lovely to meet Latecomer, who was dutifully wearing her badge (mine was in my pocket!) and sorry we missed you too Emi. Had meant to look for you at first interval but by then was in way too emotional a state. Everything was very raw, wasn't it? I loved the production, I know Icke has had some criticism recently but I think he is a genius. There were so many moments in this which threw fresh light on well-worn aspects of the play. Scott was astounding but a special mention for Peter Wight as a heart-breaking Polonius. Loved the ending, loved it all. Yes, school kids great, I had a jewellery-rattler v close to me who was told off by an usher, well done that woman! Oh, and new seats are lovely. A brilliant afternoon PS. I was reading some reviews (which I don't do until after I've seen a production) and the Time Out one seemed to suggest that this version cast some doubt on Claudius' guilt - I didn't pick that up at all. |

Never seen Andrew Scott before, thought he was OK, no more, very self-indulgent breaking up every speech into individual lines and leaving gaps in between. Very good supporting cast and good direction apart from a hopelessly botched final scene. Gratuitous nudity too, surprisingly.

Almeida says priority booking to members on midnught April 1.. Does that mean the night from Friday to Saturday? Just a tiny bit confusing.. Never came across a theatre ticket booking that starts at midnight before..
