Ok, I've solved it. Have all of the the different costumes from different styles and eras but make them all the same ghostly grey/white and everyone's hair and make up white so that it looks like an ensemble instead a bunch of people from a fancy dress party.
No, really. My pleasure.

Well, saw this at the matinee today. Took a bunch of friends, 9 of us total. Was so looking forward to it but we all thought it was very much below par. I don't know if the cast weren't up for it, Sunday matinee etc, or the audience weren't up for it or both but Christ it was leaden. The jokes did not land at all and there was just something wrong with the pace of it. Gomez was good, he was the only one with any real energy, and I thought Samantha Womack was ok but the other eight read her deadpan as dead bored. One thing bugged the sh*t out of me. The ancestors/ghosts all being dressed in different costumes looked hideously messy in the ensemble numbers. Hugely distracting. Why not just dress them all as ghosts so that everyone knew what was going on? Also, members of the ensemble hanging about on stage for no reason throughout. Did somebody want to get their money's worth out of them? Terrible shame. Maybe we got it on a bad day. We were both at The Lowry last week BurlybeaR but seem to have had very different experiences! I really enjoyed this on Friday evening. Les Dennis was off but Scott Paige did a great job as a rather adorable Uncle Fester, earning the loudest cheers at curtain call from an enthusiastic audience. No problems with jokes falling flat - if anything, certain lines such as Gomez talking about Wednesday setting fire to a Jehovah's witness, earned such loud laughter and subsequent applause that the audience reaction bordered on inappropriate and seemed to amuse the cast! Funnily enough, I loved everything about the ancestors/ghosts, from their terrific costumes to the spectacular, slickly-executed ensemble numbers. I thought the atmosphere and creepiness of the Addams' home was also greatly enhanced by the ancestors overlooking the action or briefly shadowing the principal characters. Kirsty Ingram as the Geisha ancestor stood out from a high-energy ensemble. Cameron Blakeley as Gomez is definitely the star of the show but Carrie Hope Fletcher also shone as Wednesday, while Samantha Womack had the deadpan Morticia to a T. It's not a musical that's going to change the world but it delivers exactly what it says on the tin and does so with aplomb. ****

They can't then all look the same, as generic ghosts, can they? Ghosts also hang about, haunting, where they like - its what they do . The whole family is deadpan - its in the genes.

After a fortnight in Salford, the cast and crew are probably looking forward to spending the next week somewhere as vibrant and buzzing as...Sheffield.
When everyone heads home on Saturday night, CHF is even hanging around for an extra day for a book signing at the local Waterstones. It's only £12.99 to attend!!!

Your post slags off both Salford and Sheffield (both vibrant Northern cities) then misrepresents a book signing. The book is £12.99, the purchase of which is a pre-requisite for Waterstones to go to the inconvenience of hosting the event. An event that will bring happiness to many (mostly teenage) fans, and give them a chance to meet the person that they are a fan of. I'm all for a bit of snark but your post has no point or discernible humour.

Salford and Sheffield are honest working class cities and are both lucky enough to have very good theatres for the locals to visit after they've fed their whippets.

Sheffield is a fantastic city, I won't have anybody tell me otherwise.

I saw it today in Sheffield. Les Dennis wasn't on owing to his 'indisposition' according to the announcement. It was ok, and Cameron Blakely as Gomez held it together for me. Slightly better in the second half and I did enjoy the 'tango'. The audience went nuts at the end, maybe I just see too many shows.

I saw it this evening but wasn't blown away. Les Dennis still off but Scott seemed a good stand in as was funny and lovable. Carrie was OK but her voice going and she couldn't hit the high notes on some of her songs, they had just done two shows almost back to back though!! I think the highlight for me was Gomez, he was funny and kept the show going and me interested. I did see this on Broadway and there are obviously a few changes so maybe it didn't live up to the first show I saw it just felt like something was missing but not sure what.

Signs up in the theatre saying both Les and Carrie are off. Scott Paige is on for Fester as usual and Kirsty Ingram is on as Wednesday.

Feel so sorry for Kirsty.
She is making her debut and will no doubt be looking forward to a few tweets congratulating her but as Carrie has tagged her in this all she will see us 645643577 messages "oh I am so sorry I am missing you Carrie. My daughter will be devastated" etc etc etc.

On the contrary, I think she has banged on about the limits of a performer so much that no 'hopeful' would allow their parent to publicly denounce her for being ill. But will she be at the signing tomorrow though?🤔 (It does beg the question as to why she is singing elsewhere at the same time though?)

Actually if you head to twitter it is full of people saying they understand, wishing her understudy luck etc.

So glad that this is the case, it would have been so disheartening for Kirsty to read those sorts of tweets before making her debut in the role. Book signings along with the tour I can understand, but another two musicals? I'm surprised it took this long for her voice not to ply ball

I'm curious as to what the two other musicals are! Sounds like a lot to be doing in one go though.

Would probably be wise of the producers to let Kirsty do matinees on a two show day, Wednesday is a big sing and one of those roles that require strong belts and high notes. It'd give both girls the chance to shine.

After Salford, then Sheffield, the cast and crew must have enjoyed spending the last week somewhere as vibrant as Bristol. Perhaps Les Dennis is even staying on an extra day to sign copies of his autobiography, for a small fee?
