Not a cut song, but cut lines from the Rainbow Tour in Evita: The original has Eva singing, "Did you hear that? They called me a whore. They actually called me a whore!" And a sea admiral replies, "But Signora Peron, it's an easy mistake, I've had that trouble too. I'm still called an admiral yet I gave up the sea long ago..." This was all interspersed and followed by gorgeous bits of string work from the orchestra. It was shaved when it got to the stage. Strings disappeared too... But those lyrics appear in the film

But those lyrics appear in the film Alas no... Bars of music shaved, together with the line, "I've had that trouble too..." Strings gone. Small but very important to me, as someone brought up on the Julie Covington version, with the part of the Admiral sung by Nelson Perry, who'd last appeared as CAIAPHAS at the Palace Theatre in Superstar!

Happily Ever After, cut from Company. Bang! cut from A Little Night Music Yeah, there's also a song sung by the character Frid in A Little Night Music. No too sure if it's the same some to which you're referring or something else. Frid's song is called Silly People. It's definitely different from Bang. It (Silly People rather than Bang) was included in the Menier's production when it was on at the Menier but if I remember correctly it was then cut when the production transferred to the Garrick.

You are absolutely correct Dawnstar. I saw both productions- The Menier and The Garrick. I actually would mind trying to find a recording with that song on it.

I'm not well up on cast recordings but I'm sure there'll be someone on here who knows if it's been recorded. I can't say I found it a memorable song, in fact all I can remember now is the "Silly People" refrain. I was much more impressed by Bang, when I heard it in Putting It Together - especially with Damian Humbley & Caroline Sheen doing a combined tango & vertical seduction!

Starlight Express is a tough one for me because I love all of the songs that have been replaced over the years, but I also tend to like the replacements a lot too. The love ballads, in particular, have got progressively less and less relevant.

Bang is rather good, although In Praise of Women (which has the same rhythm) is better. I’m not saying Silly People is dreck, just that I’ve never heard a version that convinced me. I love the movie version of Ordinary Mothers (or is it called Glamorous Life?) for Fredrika.

Incidentally, in the original black & white Swedish film Smiles of a Summer Night that A Little Night Music is based upon, the character of Fredrika is a young boy.

There was a song called The One on the Left that was cut from Sunday in the Park with George and it appears as a bonus track on the Menier revival production cast recording.

I like the song that got lost from Chicago, about the theatrical agent - was it called Mr Ten/Seven per cent? It had some clever lyrics and a catchy tune, but it introduced a character that only had one song, I believe.

The beginning of Eva's Sonnet in Evita is beautiful ("Those shallow mean pretenders to your throne..."). Can't think why the writers didn't insist that stay. It's only heard on the concept album. I wonder if it sounded too English folky?
Picking up at "And I shall have my people come to choose...." means it's no longer a sonnet as first titled.

'Do the Sacred Mass' didn't make it from the West End version of 'Sister Act' to the Broadway version, sadly. It's so catchy!
'How I Got The Calling' has been replaced with 'Good To Be A Nun' in the Broadway version. The current Craig Revel Horwood directed tour uses the Broadway script, as did the last UK/Ireland tour with Cynthia Erivo.

Not my overall favourite song to be cut from a musical, but the cut of "Oh Yes" after the Adelphi run of The Bodyguard was a mistake I think. It was a very sexy moment and really established The Stalker as a scary and threatening person in the show. Now, he is less established as a threat until the second half, and I do think the loss of that song was noticeable for those of us at least who saw the show originally.

I always liked "There's Me" from "Starlight Express". I agree. Its such a simple song, but it worked for me. I wish they would bring back the CB character. He was a good villan. Anyone know why it was cut? Another cut song i love is 'She's Gone' from Side Show. Is it possible to have too much belting in a show??

More to the story from Shrek. Such a beautiful song, much better than many who remained in the show. Here's Sutton Foster singing this song at a cabaret: I really missed Don't Let me Go and Build a Wall from the West End version of Shrek, especially Build a Wall as it was such a serious song compared to the rest of them. I believe Don't Let me Go made a return for the tour?

I believe Don't Let me Go made a return for the tour? Yep. Just checked my programme from Manchester, and Don't Let Me Go is the third song.

Here's the song from Chicago I mentioned. There's also a version on youtube of it performed on stage in the try out, and David Pierce white or whatever his name is sings it elsewhere.

Here's Sutton Foster singing this song at a cabaret: This was going to be my choice too, I really love this song! My choice too. I wish it wasn't cut because Fiona doesn't really get a big emotional song all to herself, like Shrek does. I wish they hadn't cut Build A Wall from the UK production.

I don't usually seek out cut songs unless it's a show I really love. I've said on here before I prefer the original ending of Company 'Happily Ever After' in tone although it isn't as good of a song as Being Alive. I wish they had kept the extended version of 'Perfect For You' in Next to Normal. I love the original Adams Administration rap from Hamilton and also wish Lin had kept the original 'Schuyler Defeated' for the Burr/Eliza interaction. I'm glad he cut 'Congratulations' though as it would really slow down the flawless transitions between Hurricane/The Reynolds Pamphlet/Burn and I also think at that point it needs to be more about Eliza's reaction than Angelica's.

Anyone know why it was cut? I love the character of CB too. He's still around in the German production in Bochum, though with less of a role than previously. He still has solo lines in 'Freight', helps cause the crash in Race 3, races with Rusty in Race 4 and sings in 'One rock 'n' roll too many' with Greaseball and Electra. He also still sings a cut-down version of 'Wide smile/Mein Spiel' too. 'There's Me/Dein Freund' has now been cut though, which I think is a shame as I loved the song.
