Burning Doors

I saw the world premiere of Burning Doors tonight from Belarus Free Theatre about the oppression of Russian and Ukranian artists, including one of the members of Pussy Riot who features in the play. I say play. It's a mixture of different stories, ranging form extracts to more very rigorous and often difficult-to-watch physical work. There's a lot going on in it but it's a rewarding bit of theatre - playing Soho next month.

I saw this at the Soho theatre (on until the end of September) and it's extremely powerful. I agree TL, I'm not sure it coheres as a play, but it's a remarkable (if tough) watch nonetheless, and the commitment (and agility) of the performers is astonishing. The wrestling scene, as a parable of what sustained resistance can achieve, sticks in my mind, as does much of it. And it's a powerful reminder of the oppression that is going on in those countries right now. Definitely should be seen.
