Steve Blanchard played the Beast on Broadway for eight years.
Not a single production, but Ted Neeley has been playing Jesus for longer than it is popularly accepted that Jesus actually lived for. (Lin-Manuel Miranda has expressed a strong wish to do the same with Hamilton.)

Was it Broadway or West End one of the chorus members of Cats stayed the whole 20 year run or something? Steven Wayne was with the London production from its opening in 1981 until he left 19½ years later. At some point the production introduced a policy of not allowing anyone to remain in the show for more than two years, but as he preceded the introduction of that policy he was able to stay. The show closed a year and a half after he left.

Actually I've just remembered who the longest-serving cast member of any show is - unlikely to be overtaken any time soon

I remember reading somewhere that broadway actors are protected by their unions so they can stay with a show as long as they want to,.. I saw the lady mentioned on that article in Chicago on Broadway last August and she was great. Also Amra-Faye Wright was on as Velma. She did the uk tour in 2002 and I'm sure I saw her in the West End at some point so she's been playing Velma in different productions, including Japan, on and off for about 15 years!!

I think Dawn has been in Starlight for about 29 years! (Had the odd year off in the early and mid 90's) She's twice the age of most of the cast and just incredible! It's one hell of a work out! Amazing person and wonderful performer.

I hope one day that Steven Carlile will get to do London - he was phenomenal on tour and is currently on Broadway as Scar.

I love this thread. I just can't imagine how you could do a show for so long and not hate it in the end. It's hard for me to think that actors sometimes don't feel like going to work that work, as it is a dream of mine to be on stage, but let say playing a show or singing a song thousands of times? Even I can imagine that's going to be boring. But maybe it shows for some performers but they don't see it themselves? I had a bit of a feeling with George Asprey. It felt 'automatic Pilot' and lacked energy and depth for me. But for example Willemijn as Elphaba still amazes me with new approaches, riffs etc.
