I saw it about a week before Julie left the production. I had a great time. It was clear she wasn't on top form vocally as the note that shattered the glass was certainly not high! But she was relishing the role.
It is escapist nonsense but it works live.
I don't know who I would want to play it now. But it deserves a decent UK outing.

Southwark Playhouse did an excellent production of this in 2012 (when at London Bridge) with Anna Francolini. Although I enjoyed it, Mancini's score isn't top-drawer.

There were some international productions of this- I believe in Mexico and definitely somewhere in Germany and a cast recording was made with Helen Schneider. There's also something that tells me Elena Roger might have played Vic/Vic in Argentina. The great Spanish diva Paloma San Basilio performed in the Spanish production in 2005. |

Yes! I saw it. And they shipped the Broadway set to Madrid for the Spanish production.
It was good fun in spite of its flaws. San Basilio's vocals were great.
