Lucy was superb as Maria when I saw it again on Wednesday night. Unfortunately a couple of females were off so there were a couple of obvious men supplementing numbers in Nuns Chorus. Neil McDermott was good as Captain too and Holly Willock covering Liesl was excellent too although she wore her socks like knee high leggings which didn't seem to fit with the character.
Also having seen film so many times, you sometimes forget that songs are in a different order on stage so almost think something else should be there.

I saw this in Oxford last year with Lucy O’Byrne last year and I thought she was alright, but nothing to write home about.
Fast 💨Forward a year.
So saw this again in my local theatre, Bromley Churchill and I thought Lucy O’Byrne was quite frankly superb, she has literally grown into her role and made it her own, she displayed a vulnerability she never had last year.
4 Stars. With a venture if local to you.

Has anyone ever been to the Sound of Music Sing-A-LongA at the Prince Charles cinema, London where you're given a bag of props/goodies and when Julie Andrews first appears on screen spinning around, arms outstretched there are cheers of joy. Every time Rolf appears on screen everyone barks. Every time The Baroness appears, they hiss. People wave their plastic Edelweiss. There are curtain swatches. It's brilliant! I've worked this Sing-A-Longa several times, and it's great fun. I never fail to be amazed at the costumes the audience turn up in. Lots of bearded nuns, and quite where all the authentic Nazi uniforms come from I'm not sure... My favourites have been a family who came as a mountain range, wearing a duvet cover painted green with holes in for their heads to go through, and a very inspired lady who came as everything in 'My Favourite Things', wearing a white dress with a blue satin sash, with everything else hanging off it, including a copper kettle, stuffed toy pony, Sara Lee apple strudel box, and a doorbell on her head! We also had a rather enthusiastic gentleman dressed in a perfect replica of the 'I Have Confidence' costume, including hat, carpet bag and guitar case, who danced down the aisle lipsynching during the song. Sadly he had to be restrained and dragged back to his seat by the ushers as he tried to climb over the orchestra pit and get onto the stage... I went to one of these years ago at the Prince Charles Cinema and never laughed so much. Helped by the fact most of the audience were drunk. Someone came as a "brown paper package tied up with string". At the beginning when Julie Andrews is running up the hill we were all told to chant "she's coming, she's coming" gradually getting louder and louder until she got to the top of the hill. One of my friends was a bit over zealous and started chanting too loudly so by the time Maria got to the top she was screaming at the top of her voice. Brilliant.

When I went you were given a little pack of props. A scrap of curtain fabric, a plastic edelweiss flower, an invitation to the captain’s ball etc etc. It’s a lot of fun.

Looks like this (Bill Kenwright) production is touring again next year.
Announced for Wolverhampton Grand 3 to 7 March 2020.
It doesn't say it's this production, but the advertising text is the same as on the Kenwright website.
I think this will be third time this production has toured. I saw the first tour and wasn't too keen on some of the changes, but it's been a few years, so I might give it another go.

Did the Palladium version ever tour?! Yes, 2009 to 2010 I believe with Connie Fisher. I saw it twice on tour, once with Michael Praed and once with Jason Donovan. One of those sang much better than the other. After that, it went on an international tour (but not with Connie Fisher). I happened to catch it in Melbourne when I was there in 2016.

Ahhh cool, I wasn't sure.
I always find it hard to return to the Kenwright experience after I have seen a decent version....

Interesting WoS announce the ethnicity of the actor playing Mother S. but none of the others Do they or don't like Welsh people? Or perhaps its the assumption that Welsh people can sing. Although isnt that steroptype surrounding Welsh male choirs?

Seeing this next week as it arrives in Woking. Could anyone offer any thoughtful insight into what the production is like? Very excited as I've never seen this live on stage before and I'm in need of a R&H fix

For a Kenwright production I think this is one of his better ones Just a shame about the artwork - I was just looking at a Blackpool Winter Gardens brochure, it's awful.
