It's that time again: the few weeks every four years when I develop an interest in sports. Why is it that I feel that I'll be missing out if I don't watch as much as I can, even though I'd never even think of watching this stuff at any other time?
Just watching Belgium's Lotte Kopecky cycling up a steep gradient at jogging speed. The knowledge that I'd struggle to walk up a 20% gradient at walking speed doesn't half make me feel like a lazy bastard. Unfortunately they don't award gold medals for saying "screw this, I'll have a beer".

My interest in sports is as low during Olympics as always (speak: non-existent).

Tis true. I've been watching cycling, fencing, rugby 7s today. None of which I would have the remotest interest normally. I do draw the line at football though.

Never really into sports, but can't help but be sucked in by the gymnastics. I guess it's close enough to both dance and superheroes to tap into my actual interests, compared with all the other Olympic sports.

Surely the ultimate Olympic sport for musical theatre fans who have no interest in sports is synchronised swimming?!

I love sports, so I usually make sure to not book any trips during big events like the Olympics. Though I can't bring myself to be up in the middle of the night now to watch the decisions!
I mostly love the fact that the Olympics show so many sports that are rarely seen on TV as it's usually wall to wall football. Since I used to do foil fencing myself, I enjoyed watching the fencing yesterday. German guy was way behind, then his French opponent dropped his smartphone from his pocket (on the fencing mat!) and apparently got so confuddled by the incident that the German beat him. Funnier to watch than many shows.
I also like "simple" games like Beachvolleyball where you don't need to know a lot of rules to enjoy watching it. I never got my head around Cricket for myself. Maybe as a continental I just lack the specific Cricket gene.

The sport I really love is the Rhythmic Gymnastics, but until digital TV came along it was almost never shown. I remember a few years ago I complained to the BBC about their lack of coverage of the RSG events and they said that they had to offer fair and balanced coverage. In this particular year the Rhythmics were the very last event of the Games. "Fair and balanced" apparently meant not broadcasting one single second of the only event still running on the last day and instead showing umpteen repeats of highlights from previous days.
Why, yes, I am still bitter about this. Perceptive of you to notice.

Love watching the swimming, cycling and athletics. Not so keen on the group sports. The road cycling races the last 2 days were very exciting (a bit too exciting in fact with some dangerous crashes).
Also being drawn inexorably into watching other sports about which I know nothing. Quite strange really, watching sports where you have no idea of the rules- but somehow that does not stop me...

I'm addicted to the Olympics and watch everything going for the duration. However, as soon as it's over, I never go near most of the sports for the next four years.

I watch the Olympics for the swimming, gymnastics (artistic and rhythmic) and the occasional equestrian event and diving. I'll watch the tennis sometimes too, particularly if Murray is playing.

Sorry but I don't think ping-pong should be an Olympic sport.
What next? Skittles? Shove-a-Penny?

What qualifications do you need to become a judge? (I'd be prepared to work hard and give it 100%...)
Our Thomas is doing well, and that Daniel is such a good fellow.

I watch a bit of them all, but I don't get carried away 24/7. I do like the track cycling though but it's the Camden Fringe this week so I might take the opportunity to see a few plays on the same day. It's like when Euro 2016 was on, I'd watch the games but would also see the odd play in between.
