Company is my favourite show of his despite the issues I have with the ending which I've discussed before. Assassins is by far my favourite score of his though.

Mr Sondheim, we're not worthy!
Best show (every time, hands down) Sunday in the Park with George, with Sweeney Todd/A Little Night Music tied for a close second then Into the Woods.
In terms of dialogue- Let all the birds nest in your hair- A Little Night Music
Songs- The Princes song Agony is very clever, as is Agony, both from into the Woods.
The Worst Pies in London and A Little Priest ,both from Sweeney Todd are both excellent, clever and witty. I also like A Weekend in the Country and It Would Have Been Wonderful again from A Little Night Music and Unworthy of Your Love from Assassins.
I once went to a Sondheim talk where the character of Petra and her song from A Little Night Music and why it is placed in the show where it is were discussed in detail. After that, her song The Millers Son makes so much sense.

Impossible to choose just one favourite.
Favourite rhyme/line is either
"I like the isle of Manhattan, smoke on your pipe and put that in"
or "While her withers wither with her"

Mind you the line about painting without the right, bright, white, light is pretty darn clever.
Gilbert and /Sullivan were also pretty hot on such rhymes - 'to fit the wit of a bit of a chit, and that's the long and the short of it!'
Can we add the missing 'H' to the title of this forum.
Not a rhyme, but it always makes me laugh when Joanna, in Sweeney, is wittering on about her reticule and Anthony sings 'what's a reticule?'
I wonder how Sondheim is translated into other languages...I have a rip roaring Brazilian ( I think) Little Night music.

Sondheim is my favourite composer of all time so hard to pick out a favourite but probably between Company Sunday and Follies.
Favourite line is from The Frogs."Please don't fart, there's very little air and this is art"

My favourite song by anybody, ever, is "With So Little To Be Sure Of" from Anyone Can Whistle - perhaps the most heartfelt lyrics Sondheim ever wrote. I can't hear it without dissolving into mush.
