I saw this on tour years ago with Marti Pellow and then recently with Emma Hatton. I thought that the cast did their best in the cheap, tired production. It upsets me as I actually really like Evita but have never seen a production of it which has been staged with any 'care'!
Sidenote: I may be wrong but I thought when I saw it in Edinburgh during the high falsetto note in 'And the money Kept Rolling In" Mr Schiaretti turned his back and might not have been singing the note that we heard... Would be interested to hear if anybody else noticed this...

Jeremy Secomb to join the cast as Juan Peron. Currently contracted until June - Manchester, international, and spring UK dates.
As much as I enjoy seeing Jeremy perform, I can’t bear to sit through it again!

Does whoever plays Eva have a show off every week? Just seen that it's coming back to Cardiff and I'd really like to catch Madalena.

Far as I'm aware, the lead Eva has one performance off a week, with a designated alternate doing those, illness and holidays. U less I'm confused, but I think that is the case.

Fabulous tonight. Madalena just kills it. You could hear a pin drop in those final scenes, audience absolutely into it. Loved it.

I’m very tempted to try to see this tour again - I think Jeremy Secomb is brilliant, and everyone seems to say that Madalena is a stunning Eva. Her tracks on the new double album of Evita and Sunset certainly seem to back that up.

Oh my I was googling casting to find out who Peron was played by because I recognised him from somewhere but it’s all Eva and Che on the web. But yes! I saw him in Les Mis! Thank you!

I was thinking of catching the show in Newcastle and getting a cheap £25 ticket. Is it really that bad? I don't want to travel to Newcastle just for it to be bad.

I saw it in Wimbledon and it was good enough, Emma Hatton was fine and Sarah O'Connor was fabulous, but the show just isn't for me.

You haven’t said where you’re travelling from, or how far. If you haven’t seen a professional production and it’s within a reasonable distance then why wouldn’t you go? This has nothing to do with who is in it, or people’s personal issues with the show. You’re appearing in it for heavens sake so it’s about seeing it on stage, performanced by professionals. Go, and report back on what you thought.

I mean, it’s a £25 ticket so you can’t really go wrong with that, especially for professional live theatre.

Go. Madalena is bloody fab and you have a vested interest. I actually think I'll give this tour a miss. Sorry! Mainly because I have Wicked coming up in 2 weeks, and then the Kinky Boots, Les Mis and Matilda tours. If it (Evita) comes to Edinburgh again though, I will probably go but as I have quite a lot of expensive tickets coming up I don't think I can really squeeze it in this time.

Saw this last night at Press Night in Birmingham, having seen this production in London a few years back and on tour last year.
The current cast is strong. Jeremy Secomb is impressive vocally and able to combine the right emotional level between staring and smiling. And Madalena Alberto nails every note.
I wasn't too taken by Gian Marco Schiaretti as Che, who had a habit of missing off the end of a lot of words he was singing.
Also, a lot of the ensemble have been in the show a long time!
This worked well on the large stage in the Hippodrome, although I can see why people would think it's due a revamp.

Saw this last night in Birmingham. Have seen it several times since the late eighties and only went because I got cheap tickets. I enjoyed it a lot. Madalena Alberto was good - at last, for the first time in years, an Eva who can sing the score as written (ie, A New Argentina all sung through in the original keys!) Brava! It is dated in style, but the score is strong and always good to hear it sung live.

Hi folks
Does anyone know if Madalena does all performances? A friend has booked for the Wednesday matinee in Newcastle, and I'm concerned that Ms Alberto might not do weekday matinees!

I would have though Gian Marco would be ready for a matinee off. How long has he been in this now?

Hi folks Does anyone know if Madalena does all performances? A friend has booked for the Wednesday matinee in Newcastle, and I'm concerned that Ms Alberto might not do weekday matinees! It is usual for the role of Evita to have an alternate and it is common practice for the main Evita (ie, Madalena Alberto in this case) to have two shows off each week. The alternate used to do the two matinee performances each week, but I believe they occasionally vary this now. Sadly for you, there is a good chance that the Evita at the Wednesday matinee will be the alternate (going by the history of the role at least). You may be lucky, though - fingers crossed for you! Let us know what you thought of the show once you’ve seen it - whichever Evita you get to see.

I didn't think she would book a weekday matinee which as we all know is very much a gamble in terms of getting the regular lead actor.
