Giving Ragtime a spin again. It's big, and played full out and keeps getting bigger. It is its 20th year anniversary since it opened on Broadway. I'm old.

Today I did the housework to 'The Best Little Whorehouse In Texas' it's a show that i did many years ago and still has a place in my heart. Such a fantastic score and a great lead part in Mona. Why isn't it done more often?

That was a great little show with a shocking number of audience in attendance when I saw it. When I got to the theatre easily at 7.20 I thought I was the only one there. There couldn't have been over 50 people when I saw it.

I'm hungry for some Brian D'Arcy James (don't blame me). Anyone can recommend your favourite songs/performances?

His tone is gorgeous and could listen to him for hours. Shrek - Who I'd Be, Anything from Titanic, Sweet Smell Of Success - At The Fountain. Anything with him in really! Also loved him in Next To Normal recordings.

Dear Evan Hanson at the moment but it's all very confusing as I tunes mixed all the tracks up so I get the finale at the beginning and don't have a scooby what's going on. Nice songs and Ben Platt has a great voice.

Why don't you just manually rearrange the tracks?

Why don't you just manually rearrange the tracks? Had an apple tech guy try for an hour and even he couldn't do it.

Why don't you just manually rearrange the tracks? Had an apple tech guy try for an hour and even he couldn't do it. They just go back to where they were...if you can be arsed saving it as a playlist then rearrange it to your preferred order thats ok but some musicals run through and this puts a gap between tracks so you lose the flow.

In light of the JRB gig, I've tried to give Madison County and Honeymoon in Vegas another try. Love JRB, but these have never really gotten under my skin save for a few tracks. Can't say I have much investment in the stories, and the scores seem genre pieces - not the best showcase for his talents. Think of the two, I found more to enojy in Madison County.
Lena Hall's second Obsessed dropped - Peter Gabriel this time. There's an acoustic Sledgehammer, which is slightly country, and yet at the same time has an intro that sounds like Boogie On Reggae Woman.
And have loved Buddy Rich's West Side Story suite, of which there are many jawdropping performances.

I've been listening to Moulin Rouge today as choir have given us 'Come What May' to sing. Rather intense University flashbacks when this was one of the only CDs I had with me...
Also I've been listening to 'I love you because' in my car I went through a phase of listening to it every morning and despite having not listened to it in nearly a decade my sing-along is near enough perfect still haha.

I've been listening to the Kinky Boots OBC recording and there's some songs in it that I recognise from the radio that I had no clue were in the show. (Just Be, The History of Wrong Guys).
I actually think I'm going to love Kinky Boots and I'm glad they picked Edinburgh for the Christmas venue on tour this year.

Chess. Lots of recordings... I’m surprised how good I am on the words.
Just thought I’d mention it.
Well stranger things have happened. Haven’t they?

This week I've mainly been listening to:
Nativity the musical. Completely not the right season but there is something about Simon Lipkin singing about weeing his pants that I'm enjoying.

But who will you play? 😛 The one who tilts the chessboard. I've been practising lifting the (fairly heavy) dining room table and singing the "Liar! Liar!" bit at the same time. I think I've cracked it.

I've ended up this week on Eydie Gorme Sings Showstoppers, and played it through a few times as it is fun. She is vivacious. Not much in the way of characterisation, but there's a joy and an immediacy to the performances. Good selection.

I love the score of Smike - I know it well since, in my former life as a class music teacher, I've rehearsed and MDed the music and later on, for another amateur production, played clarinet in the pit. Bizarrely for this Iain Duncan Smith was in the audience (his son was one of the 'Dotheboys'.)

I wonder who will be cast for the US tour next year. It will be hard to equal this cast.

So now they're apparently selling a new cast recording of Love Never Dies on the US tour. It's a live recording of the Australian cast. I'm not sure if it's just a rip of the Australian DVD, but it's interesting because they never said they'd release one and I haven't seen it listed before.
