On the one band I know it's very early, but on the other sometimes the show is known way in advance when a transfer is preplanned (e.g. Oliver).
Are there any rumblings on what next year's might be?
Hoping my dream of A Little Night Music there will happen eventually

I long for an ALNM revival to match the glorious NT version that just had the most perfect cast, and was so beautifully melancholy. If Imelda wants to play anything downbeat & insular why not give us her Desiree?

Hell will freeze over before I sit through Imelda's Desiree.
Jo Riding really wants another bash at the Countess though, so if we could convince Sarah Lancashire to return to theatre and get over her stage fright, id very much enjoy those two.

Was reading the first comment thinking I'd love to see Jo Riding as the Countess in a full production rather than concert. And if she fancies it, I wouldn't mind seeing her give Desiree a go at some point either!

Would A Little Night Music be that appealing to the Chichester audience? I think something like Brigadoon or A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum would make more sense.

And while I'm here placing wishes, I'd like to request Hadley Fraser for the Count. He had to pull out of a concert reading years ago and I refuse to let that dream die. |

I think with the right casting it would, more so than Forum I'd say. Although even that with the right cast could work. Sweeney was a hit there, and that's not your stereotypical Chichester choice. And has has been mentioned, Chichesters audience is more diverse than some on here like to state I like Imelda but don't see her as Desiree. A future Madame Armfeldt could work though. Oh god please keep Rob Houchen far away from any production. |

Agree that IS would be better suited to Madame A.
I would like to see a new Forum - there was a terrific production directed by Damian Crudden some years back.

I've always wanted to see Rob Brydon as Fredrik in A Little Night Music. After seeing him in Old Friends in 2022, he's got a great voice, he would nail the comedy and he would be a massive audience pull.

Yes, they have in fact already done ALNM but it was all the way back in 1989. They've done several productions of the same play over the years but the only musical repeat they've ever done was the bizarre decision to do Oklahoma! as the Summer show in both 2009 and 2019. |

Musical repeats are fine as long as they're more than a decade apart. It's tricky to find shows that will sell but haven't been done for a while or done regularly. My Fair Lady is one I'm surprised hasn't been attempted by Chichester but the recent revival in London and on tour probably means it can't be done for a while.

Just on the subject of Night Music, I wonder if they did the Menier musical again today with the 'A list' Hannah Waddingham, if she would be replaces by Catherine Zeta Jones for the Broadway transfer?

PLEASE! no more Imelda! We’ve suffered enough. Are there no other actresses in this country who understand and can sing and act musical theatre? She’s a great actress but (in my humble opinion) was miscast in Sweeney Todd, Follies, Gypsy and Hello DULLY! (Wave Your Little Hand and Whisper So Long Dreary)

Ahhh I absolutely adore Joanna Riding and yes I do recall a few interviews where she has said how much she’d like to play The Countess in a fully fledged production. It would be amazing if Janie Dee agrees to play Desiree again as I think they’re the most tremendous duo but I think Janie would say been there, done that and want to move on to the next thing.
Potential Desiree’s I guess could include Victoria Hamilton-Barritt, Samantha Spiro or Anna Francolini?
I would love to see Damian Humbley tackle Frederick again though - beautiful voice…

Unless you count Gypsy as a Sondheim (some do some don't) they haven't actually done a Sondheim since 2011 so I'd argue it's time to do another...
