x.com/mrcarl_woodward/status/1817113270437769258?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5EtweetFrom @mrcarl_woodward on X ' A little birdie told me superstar Cate Blanchett is to star in Thomas Ostermeier’s production of The Seagull at the Wyndham’s, London next year'
Just seen this and if true it's quite exciting. But we did only just have a radical Seagull two years ago in the West End so is it to soon ? But anyways this does seem like it could be quite a credible rumour based on what else Woodward has rumoured before.

It was poor. The seagull would benefit from a restorative convalesence.

This should be batsh*t bonkers, dark, and brilliant. And an antidote to the Lloyd snoozefest...

Daisy Edgar-Jones has a theatre project soon so maybe she's playing Nina?

Normally I’d be very excited seeing rumours of Cate Blanchett in a Chekhov classic but I wasn’t terribly impressed watching An Enemy of the People by the same director this year, was expecting more from it and his “reimagining” fell flat on me, especially the audience participation which I found boring, if not annoying.

When you commit it's obv. impossibly hard to know what the final production will look like: some you win, some .. not so much.
I'm taking her involvement as a good sign.

She’s just finished shooting Borderlands which is an adaptation of a video game so I’m not sure how her name attached to something is an arbiter of something rewarding.

Yes, I’m well aware of that but sometimes ‘artists’ judgment can be affected if someone offers them a bumper pay day.

In regards to Borderlands, it was shot 3 years ago with reshoots last year so it's likely a dud.

I really liked When We Have Sufficiently etc, but feel like I should apologise for it lol. I thought she was great in it. She was also fantastic in Gross und Klein. Her project choices are super interesting so I look forward to her erasing the memory of the Jamie Lloyd Seagull from my mind, which I disliked intensely.

She was great in it - the piece itself wasn't great but she and Stephen Dillane did a lot with what was there.
I hope this is true - be nice to have some proper exciting theatre in 2025

Would rather see it at the Barbican over Wyndham's if that's the case, better range of view for price in my experience!

Truly dire One of my best ever theatre experiences Topped only by all the expressions on the faces of the people who had gone just to see CB 😅 She is a genius and so is KM Although her film career isn’t perfect She always uses her talent and position to appear in stage shows which challenge and provoke I suppose people prefer her to appear in the Lion King Or Cabaret She remains a rare actor with integrity
