This has been mentioned previously in threads about the future of Theatre Royal Drury Lane, but The Stage is now officially reporting that there will be a Jamie Lloyd-directed season of Shakespeare plays at the venue between "Frozen" and "Hercules." www.thestage.co.uk/news/shakespeare-set-to-return-to-theatre-royal-drury-lane"The Stage understands director Jamie Lloyd has been in discussions about staging a season of Shakespeare work at the theatre, although nothing has been confirmed and representatives for the director did not respond to a request for comment. Frozen, currently running at the venue, closes in September, and The Stage understands a Shakespeare season could run before Disney musical Hercules opens in the summer of next year."
I believe Hiddleston was rumoured to appear. Any other ideas on plays or actors which could feature?

I would book it for the cast, which I imagine would be typically starry, not him as director as he’s too hit-and-miss.

I would rather obtusely book it for the play but no doubt I would be in minority.
If the stars have be the attraction I would in vain hope for one of the 37* that is not churned out endlessly
* yes, it is debatable.

I doubt there’s much clamour for another Hamlet or Lear. But thinking about it I quite liked Pinter at the Pinter, so if it’s in a similar style to that, where other people were directing as well as him, things playing in rep, that could be quite interesting.

How about Jamie Lloyd for Globe. Great fit with minimal sets and productions people don’t like. At least stars would attract sold out performances

Did say it was a unlikely hope
I’m hard to please having seen them all, each in at least 4 different productions
Sad I know

The only Shakespeare that would tempt me would be Titus Andronicus. Part of me feels like this would actually be a production JL might tackle as it hasn't been done as a major production for a while. I sort of can't imagine him tackling any of the comedies so have a feeling it will be tragedies and histories. Hiddleston for Iago maybe?

There is absolutely no chance whatsoever of them doing Titus Andronicus there. Julius Caesar maybe, Antony & Cleopatra at a push. Coriolanus probably not given the NT production.

I would imagine the season would allow actors who to do a short run of Shakespeare. I wouldn't be surprised if we see someone like say Florence Pugh make her West End debut or maybe a Jamie Lloyd alumni like Emilia Clarke returning to do theatre.
Daisy Edgar Jones is another possibility, she mentioned at one of the premiere of Twisters that she's returning to theatre soon but hasn't said what.

If he wants to sell 2196 seats he'd better cast someone I HAVE heard of.

Florence Pugh would sell very, very well - she is an Oscar nominee who has been in some of the biggest films of the last couple years (Oppenheimer, Dune 2, Little Women, MCU stuff too.) I agree that they are likely to lean on stars of Pugh's calibre, presumably also with ensemble casts of recent graduates, as Lloyd tends to use. My biggest wish is that Lloyd stays away from the video work, which worked so well in "Sunset Boulevard," then became a gimmick in "Romeo and Juliet," instead aiming for the textual focus and clarity that made "The Effect" and "Cyrano de Bergeac" such great successes.

Florence Pugh has said she wanted to do theatre in the past, I think the difficulty has been scheduling and finding the right project. Even though R&J was a misfire, I think she along with others like Daisy Edgar Jones would push to do something with Jamie Lloyd. That being said, I don't actually know what Shakespeare role would suit her even though she did play Cordelia in the TV adaptation of King Lear but aside from that, I am a bit stumped. Maybe The Taming of the Shrew as Katerina or Miranda in The Tempest?

I just wonder what these plays will mean. I feel like getting Jamie Lloyd to direct one play after another like machine gun fire will produce a series of pretty naff plays.
