I know Tom Hiddleston has a hardcore following, but is it enough to fill drury lane? His career doesn't seem to have had the meteoric rise forecast after night manager and Loki. Not sure how 'of the moment' he is, compared to 5 + years ago

Little bit of a query from the Theatre Monkey on my shoulder... Due to the fact that you cannot see the front of the stage from the Grand Circle or the Balcony, if in-the-round, wouldn't we potentially be looking at those areas being closed off, therefore reducing the amount of seats that will need to be sold..? Like I said up the thread, they can raise and extend the stage to the level of the first circle and put seats at the back to make it in the round.

The end of this video shows what this would look like (05:00 onwards). In theory it looks very impressive! But I hope they have the sightlines all sorted out, especially from the balcony.

The only Shakespeare that would tempt me would be Titus Andronicus. Part of me feels like this would actually be a production JL might tackle as it hasn't been done as a major production for a while. I sort of can't imagine him tackling any of the comedies so have a feeling it will be tragedies and histories. Hiddleston for Iago maybe? Titus Andronicus would have to have so many trigger warnings these days!

In fairness Titus Andronitus would be a big enough catch to attract an audience in that space. So reckon they do 3 or 4 of the following; Hamlet, King Lear, Othello, Macbeth, Julius Caesar, Richard III, Henry V, Midsummer’s Night Dream, Tempest, Merchant of Venice or Twelfth Night all with nig box office draws.
Tom Hidderstone would indeed be a draw, Benedict Cumberbatch hasn’t done any theatre since doing Hamlet at the Barbican.

Of those I’d say Tempest, Caesar, Twelfth Night are the ones that haven’t been seen as much in the last five years or so? It’s been a while since the Bridge JC and expect it’s one Jamie Lloyd could do something interesting with:

Not sure how 'of the moment' he is, compared to 5 + years ago I wouldn't be surprised if the capacity for the season is reduced to say 1500-1600 which is about the same as the Prince Edward and Adelphi which have had plays.

If you look at past West End Shakespeares that have been successful you can add Winters Tale, Richard II, Henry IV, Much Ado. There is plenty of choice. Merchant of Venice is a good one if you have a senior male film star with minimal recent stage or Shakespeare experience (Dustin Hoffman did it).

Lloyd did Macbeth and Richard iii in his Trafalgar studios seasons. So wouldn’t expect those to be revisited.
I hope it’s not Tom Hanks because I’d love to see him but don’t think I can stomach another Lloyd Shakespeare as I really disliked Macbeth and R&J.

It might not be him directing all three plays (if that's the plan) though.

Hanks is the name attached to one of the productions. Not as an actor. Maybe something else. It’s a great announcement though. Maybe tomorrow?

Possibly he's in a pre-recorded role? Much like Willem Dafoe in Seven Deaths of Maria Callas.

Richard Burton and Liam Neeson in speaking roles in War of the Worlds, are another two. With JL's entire video thing it'll probably be easy to prerecord an actor and work them in. I can almost imagine pre-recorded footage being used creatively to represent ghosts or something with good syncing on the part of things happening on-stage.

Let’s have guest ghost in Hamlet, someone different every time… ( isn’t this the way it is all going?)

He has done the prerecord thing before during the Pinter season, where Michael Gambon was an off-stage voice.

It kind of hit me sitting at the Barbican last night.
Do 4 pieces of Shakespeare’s canon. Why not belatedly bring over Daniel Craig in Othello/Macbeth and the forthcoming Denzel Washington in Othello or his recent Macbeth. If Tom Hanks was going to appear he would look amazing in a kippah. That leaves just Hamlet, which is beyond doubt going to be done, but who is going to star?
All that will sell out Drury Lane.
