Just downloaded the music to have a listen to. I'm sure Dustin Lance Black talks about this in his book and a performance with the San Francisco Gay Mens Chorus.

I've just finished listening to the recording, it's more of a choral work so I am guessing there will be a choir?
From the recording (unless there is more music) then Sierra isn't going to have much to do as there were only 3 songs which were sung by Laura Benanti on the recording.

Cause I didn't enjoy the film
There was nothing wrong with the story or the acting- anything like that. In truth I taught me a lot about a subject matter that I knew very little about.
It just wasn't a film that I enjoyed.

Is this an original musical? im not a fan of lables but im going to use one anyway, its an oratorio and it certainly is original. Dont go expecting a musical or a concert version of a musical, think along the lines of concept album meets Handels Messiah The cast recording is really worth checking out and im sure will fill in a few blanks - Enjoy, the score and the gay men's chorus sound glorious. |

They are not asking for professional singers, so it's no different than being a volunteer to something and a wonderful opportunity to be involved. Plus the money raised is going to charity. |

If people want to volunteer for an experience that they would enjoy, I can’t see a problem. There are countless examples of amateurs working with professionals. |

How was this? Did anyone go? I quite enjoyed it. It was a showcase of songs, and the whole cast was spectacular! Unfortunately the website doesn’t list him as part of the cast (unsure why) but the little boy who played young Harvey was amazing! The men’s choir was extraordinary as well. Alex Jennings gave a speech at the beginning, about history of Stonewall and the challenges the community faces today. |

I just got out and thought it was very beautiful and overwhelmingly emotional.
It's the story of Harvey Milk told in song in a quasi religious way.
Alex Jennings talked for 15 minutes about Harvey Milk, his assassination, Stonewall and the continuing battle for gay rights.
Then Cian Eagle-Service, the kid from the "Love Never Does" concert (and "The Witches," etc) comes on singing "I am Harvey Milk" and stays on stage for all but a few moments as the child version of Harvey Milk, his ears protected by the adult version of Harvey Milk, Joel Harper-Jackson, from hearing that he is being called a "faggot."
The Castro District is conjured in a choral disco hybrid melody, and Harper-Jackson is commanding, undaunted and joyous as the adult Harvey Milk.
He seems protective of Eagle-Service when Sierra Boggess takes to the stage with her ethereal soprano, standing between the boy and Boggess, but Boggess is soon swaying like in a Hawaiian dance, and she's too benign a presence anyway (I can never get all those playful childlike backstage YouTube videos out of my mind, as well as her original performance in "Love Never Does" lol), so soon they are lifting Eagle-Service in the air as he jumps and flies around the stage, as Harvey Milk's soul, dead or alive, soars.
And the final song, involving the entire Orchestra, the whole Choir, Harper-Jackson, Boggess, Eagle-Service, all singing "Come out to your parents, Come out to. . . etc, etc. . . Come out to YOURSELF" was absolutely BREATHTAKING!!!
I'm getting on the tube now with a car ride at the other end, so maybe I'll flesh this out later, or not, lol.

Sounds a wonderful concert. I've seen the boy in both Love Never Dies and The Witches and was really impressed with him.

Was Sir Ian McKellen involved? The producer name-checked and commended McKellen at the beginning before handing over to Alex Jennings, but no, I didn't see him. I did see Laura Pitt-Pulford there but she definitely wasn't Sir Ian McKellen lol. |

I saw Sir Ian McKellen leaving the auditorium at the end, I'm not sure that he was actually also involved with the production. Laura Pitt-Pulford was also there in the audience with her STATSE co-star Lauryn Redding.
I really enjoyed this, great performances from the three leads and the choir, and there was a lot of emotion in the room given the subject matter. I'm not sure if Cian Eagle-Service is doing the London run of Oliver!, but I would be very happy if he is on the day that I go, a very talented kid!
