I've met him once and he's a very friendly guy. Gets an unfairly rough press, I think.

Read this while running to the loo during Fleetwood Mac tonight.
Sunday was the first Sondheim I really 'listened' to; 2007(?) London recording. I remember listening to the harmonies in the finale and just bursting into tears. I was at a tough point in life, and everything came towards me at once and the stunning score just broke me. I always go back to this when I'm feeling low or need a boost, it's just so beautiful. Easily, in my opinion, one of Sondheim's BEST.
Never in a million years did I expect this production to transfer; I got butterflies and choked up. Musical Theatre is a funny little thing, huh.
I cannot wait to see this, going to try all I can to go on opening night. Already dreading finding out the pricing structure for this!
Cannot wait to see this stunning score performed live after all these years!

Here's the Broadwayworld article if anyone is looking for it: www.broadwayworld.com/article/Breaking-Jake-Gyllenhaal-Annaleigh-Ashford-to-Lead-SUNDAY-IN-THE-PARK-in-London-20190616 I'm a huge ALW fan - and went to see this in NY on a whim. Was having a really awful week, went online on a Friday and found a front-row Orchestra seat for Sat Matinee (two days after the show opened - and people raving about it) I'm not a huge Sondheim fan - really only knew a few of the songs from this and had a vague idea what the show was about - and was absolutely floored by this. Just a stunning theatrical experience. I could never believe it was going to stay with the original "Strictly limited production" and then thought "for sure this will be filmed" (as Sondheim seems to get a bunch of his productions filmed) and was really shocked it didn't happen. Gyllenhal was really amazing. This actually would tempt me to make my first trip to the UK just to see this again.

BWW also posts bootlegs. Their source is..wait, there's no source. They're just reporting on the news that went viral and not reporting a producer's press announcement.

Well this is most unexpected...
I’d urge everyone to not pay the ludicrous £220.. it’s just a concert version essentially, however it is not to be missed for the 2 lead performances which are sublime.
Also expect this announcement very soon..
Mean Girls opening December 2020 after SITPWG...

A handful of staged concerts that then transferred to Broadway. I'm sure along the way more ribbons were tabbed onto frocks and the empty stage became raked - hope that clears things up 😉

Who do we take it off? BroadwayWorld seems to have announced it? Is it when there official twitter goes up or ATG puts tickets back on sale?

So no presale announcement from ATG? They’re just going on sale today after what was obviously a leaked announcement?
Sounds wrong.

I'm not saying Carl's definitely lying here, but given his previous form, I'm very much on the side of "I'll believe it when I see it", and wholly sympathise with other posters who've expressed similar doubts. Sure, I'm happy to accept that this show is on its way to the Strand, but when it comes to the specifics, I'll wait and see what other sources are saying first.

Whilst I also have my doubts as to when its on sale, I think the show itself is happening based on the other evidence

No presales for ATG members and no pre registering interest. On sale at 5pm with no announcement. Does sound very odd indeed.

My thoughts exactly. The existence of an ATG site for the show is proof enough for me that it will be happening, but there is no way it will be on sale today - for starters, no show ever goes on sale at 5pm!

I'm sure he is a nice bloke and I dont doubt that he knows or is privy to certain bits of news and goss. I think that he lets himself down by how he presents it. There is a certain level of attention seeking to it and he could do with censoring himself. You dont have to make a big thing out of everything you hear or think you know, especially when it's not very plausible.

The weird thing here is why undermine a pretty genuine discovery with something falsified like the “5pm ticket sale”.

Suppose when you’re in that particular “game” the weight of expectation lies very heavy. As soon as he tweeted the original announcement people started asking for all sorts of detail like how much tix would be, would there be student discount etc. Ridiculous. He originally said on sale later this year but someone must have told him it’s today and in order to appear to be even more in the know he’s gone with it, despite it seeming really unlikely.

As much as I’d love to buy some tickets today at 5pm, I highly doubt it! I’d say more likely to go on sale Friday.
Thursday announcement from Baz. Followed by formal announcement Friday morning, with tickets being realised either there and then, or the following Friday to coincide with the Graham Norton appearance.
Do we think this show will be a hard sell? I know I’ll be going, and many theatre fans, but to the outside world has it much recognition?

Well he's a big Hollywood star, if John Malkovich can sell a Harvey Weinstein play Jake Gyllenghall could sell anything

For me it's Sondheim's best work. I'm going regardless of who is in it.
