So having got over my Sondheim nerves with Company and Follies, and loving a ticket buying frenzy, decided to continue with a ticket for SITPWG. And then bough the CD. Oh my God it's hard work! There are no stand out melodies at all on first listen (quite like the other two), just sounds like a collection of notes. Don't doubt will sound lovely played by a big orchestra live and with Jake at the front but it's not exactly easy to connect with. Is this a known thing in the Sondheim world or do all the fans find it as easy to listen to as Follies/Company, and it's just me!? I do feel like the odd one out as most people on this thread seem to think it's the best thing ever! @dom which recording are you listening to? I really like the most recent Broadway one. Jake and the orchestra sound superb. Try starting at Beautiful and carrying on through to the end, it the most melodic part of the show Dot is not meant to sound nice - hope that bit helps! Thanks! Both The Full Monty and The Girls both closed early despite having affordable prices In addition to being affordable, it helps if your show is also good... I mean that’s subjective - The Girls is one of my favourite shows from the last 5 years... |

@theatremonkey Monkey please could I ask your advice? I'm prepared to fork out for a £95 ticket for this (have only ever paid as much to see Hamilton) and my best choices in the stalls seem to be B16, F22 or O16. I am relatively short sighted so don't want to be too far back but would I see anything in B16? Thanks in advance!

My other half and I have been getting really quite into the Broadway cast recording of this. Tickets booked for next year and starting to get very excited about it!
Sunday, Move On and Finishing The Hat are just wonderful.

But will 100% agree with this quote. It was simply one of the highlights of the year for me seeing this live (scoring front row seats a day after it officially opened at a reasonable price) Hopefully they will use their heads and film it this time. |

You are aware there are (at least) two filmed versions of the show already? There's the original Broadway cast in the 1994 PBS special that you can purchase on DVD and the French version (I believe sung in English) is available to view online. That said, if they want to professionally film it- or indeed any show- I fully support this. A little while back, over a year ago now, Jake was at the British Film Institute (BFI) promoting his new film and when they opened up the questions to that audience I was lucky enough to be selected and one of the things I asked was about seeing him singing on film and he actually said that they were hoping to make a film of it. Read into that what you will. Fingers crossed. |

Might not be to everyone’s taste but Josh Groban’s soaring version of ‘Finishing The Hat’ on his ‘Stages’ CD is a personal favourite of mine and well worth a listen imo.
Just thinking today about all the wonderful MT shows in the WE this year and on tour.We are in for a truly memorable year,methinks.

Got three half-decent tickets for the closing night secured.
Not a cheap show at all but because of the star power involved and it being a limited run I didn’t want to risk missing out so booked earlier than I normally would.
Might be wrong but I think the deals,day seats etc will be limited on this unlike say Prince Of Egypt,Pretty Woman etc.Just instinct but might be wrong as indeed I usually am...lol.

Its not a well known title and its not the most accessible score for a first listen, but for me it's one of Sondheim's best. I can't wait for it and think it will be the definite highlight of 2020. |

I've been wondering about tickets for this myself. I think it said that photo ID would be required to collect from the box office (which I don't have, as yet.) But I booked a couple of other things at the same time and picked it up in Manchester months ago with the rest of the order, no questions asked. |

I thought I had booked first preview for 11th June and checked back on this thread to see and yes I did. But the ATG website is showing performances from 5th June.
That's really annoying as I wanted to have a bit of Quodas and tell everyone I am going to the first show. Now I'm not.
Not happy.

It seems they have. I did the same, brought Stalls B for £85 wanting first preview access and now they're charging £150 for the same seat 6 nights earlier. No doubt if I call to get the date changed they'll want to charge me £65 extra. Bit of a P-take |
