Woodward as Ulla is… a bit bizarre IMO Why? I’ve never heard of her but she has quite a varied cv including plenty of musicals and she’s certainly very attractive. What am I missing? She does a lot of cabaret / showgirl / burlesque themed gigs so I can totally see this. |

Only six years for those of us up north thanks to the Royal Exchange in Manchester. And that hasn't stopped me booking for this! |

This thread is like a hard foil to the statement that people don't want to see this. Most are pretty intrigued with the idea of a small scale Producers.
While it's true that maybe new big musical theatre feels a bit sparse now we've seen this years offerings, it is kind of the dead zone waiting for next year in summer where we'll hopefully see some new stuff.

It doesn't excite me, but a musical that had a decent run at a theatre the size of Drury Lane is clearly going to have enough fans that want to see it again to sell well (or indeed sell out) The Menier.
Whether that would transfer to West End demand I have no idea.
I enjoyed the concept and actually really like the score (I listened to the CD for a few years back in the day before it got relegated and gathering dust) but I think the humour is very dated. And some of it simply inappropriate in 2024.
I do think the Menier is still a good producing house though and The Baker's Wife was absolutely delightful so am sure they'll do a good job.

All musicals in the Menier I would say make a hefty loss. The owner no doubt has an eye for a transfer to the West End and Broadway and thinks it’s ripe for a revival. The owner speaks to theatre owners and producers both sides of the Atlantic. If it does happen is anyone guess though, I really have low expectations for this.

What I am hearing is they already have a West End theater and this will transfer right after the Menier run. It's a good source but it that for what it's worth..

Very unsurprising - good title, due for a revival, Menier will sell out probably before it opens and if it's good, should easily manage 12 weeks somewhere. I'd imagine there's a stunt cast for one of the remaining roles which will again help with the transfer. |

They would, but Trevor's performances are always MASSIVE and I'm not sure how much they'd be able to bring it down for the Menier... |

I'm surprised a transfer is planned before the show has even begun performances, there is a chance it could be a stinker.
Babani must be very confident in what is planned for discussions to even take place now.

If it transfers it needs bigger names to sell in the west end. None of the cast, including Andy Nyman, are well known even in the MT community.
