Back in the day, some of us actually gave money to the Globe.

For many years I booked for almost every performance as soon as booking opened, enjoying traditional and modern dress productions that made the text the main focus. I no longer trust the Globe and now wait for reviews and insider information. Too many of the actors are not up to the challenge of performing there. I am no traditionalist, having enjoyed I Joan and Henry viii but I do expect the plays to be delivered with clarity and purpose. At their very best most productions are rarely more than serviceable. However the theatre seems to be relying on tourist audiences who are happy to have ticked off the Globe. The positive reactions tend be for gimmicks and physical comedy that serve an undiscriminating audience; this is particularly evident in Shrew.
Too often productions have an agenda which is either forced on the play or alternatively not at all clear.

To have so many leave during the interval must be very obvious.

To have so many leave during the interval must be very obvious. One can only feel sorry for some of the actors Having a large fairly empty space in front of them can’t be very encouraging, especially in a comedy.

To know its not well received or sold, and then to have people during during the interval...awful.

When was the last time you went to the Globe and saw an actor you are familiar with? That you thought oh good they’re great in that? To me the level of acting is on par with the Southwark Union/Playhouse.
