How many of the patrons at Red Velvet last week would have even known about the Apollo incident, know what type of noises started it and, most of all, realised they both houses are owned by the same company? Why would know who owns the theatre be at all important? I dint know. the Apollo thing WAS big news even for none theatre people. I still get people joking about theatre falling in whenever I go see something. People really get on my tits The reason I mentioned it as several comments on here have drawn that connection between the two houses - which most people surely wouldn't have. It doesn't really matter in any case, the theatre is safe and shows are running

The audience for this bugged me something rotten. Tutting and oooh-ing every time something vaguely racist was said by the cast. What did they expect?? Didn't they have any idea of the story???
Also, who in their right mind thinks it's the done thing to eat a bag of crisps (CRISPS I ask you) during the play? If I wasn't shoehorned into the teeny tiny Garrick seats I'd have leapt across the seats and shoved them all down her throat in one go!! And the bag!!
Play was alright. The first half was a bit like 'Harlequinade' with less laughs. Second half was a lot more dull. Adrian Lester very good though. Charlotte Lucas as Ellen Tree was like Millicent Martin incarnate, Alexander Cobb as Henry Forrester almost stole the entire thing from everyone else and despite the Pepe Le Pew accent, Emun Elliott was delicious and wears a period costume like a glove.

I saw it yesterday and enjoyed more than expected. Yes, the play is a bit verbose, but Adrian is fantastic. And I totally see Charlotte Lucas as Millicent Martin incarnate!

I still enjoyed this play but my god the tube noise is irritating.
I had forgotten how fantastic Charlotte Lucas was in this, what a sexy lady! I could watch Adrian Lester for hours, such an engaging actor and I hope he does more varied theatre in the future-I have only seen various Othellos with this and the NT production.
Emun Elliott was great and I think as BME I don't think much has changed, there is more acceptance but still this feeling of tokenism when a black actor gets cast in a traditionally white role. I must get round to seeing Lester's Henry V at the NT Archive...

I've heard people mention the ability to "go along" before but never found out more.
